Jakarta – President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) leadership in the economic sector continues to receive high appreciation both domestically and internationally. The economic achievements achieved during his administration show significant progress, and this is supported by the latest data and views from a number of sources.

In the latest report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as of September 2024, the Indonesian economy showed positive growth. The national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5.2% in the second quarter of 2024, an increase compared to the 4.8% growth in the same period last year. This figure exceeded the initial projection of only around 4.9% and reflects the success of various economic policies implemented by the government.

Economist from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Dr. Raden Pardede, assessed that this achievement was the result of a comprehensive economic strategy.

“Economic growth reaching 5.2% shows the positive impact of the policies implemented by the government. The focus on improving infrastructure and structural economic reform has produced real results,” said Raden Pardede.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, also gave praise for the achievement.

“The government has succeeded in creating a conducive investment climate and supporting the development of domestic industry. Programs such as the development of industry 4.0 and incentives for the industrial sector provide a strong impetus for economic growth,” said Agus Gumiwang.

In addition, the government has also implemented various social and economic programs to strengthen people’s purchasing power and improve welfare. Direct cash assistance (BLT) programs and subsidies for certain sectors have helped ease the economic burden on low-income communities. The latest data shows that the poverty rate has decreased to 9.03%, the lowest figure in the last two decades.

In terms of international trade, Indonesia also recorded encouraging achievements. Non-oil and gas exports increased by 8% in the same period, with the manufacturing and agricultural sectors being the main contributors. This export performance shows that the global market increasingly trusts Indonesian products.
Overall, the achievements in the economic sector during President Joko Widodo’s administration provide a positive picture of the direction of national economic policy. With the support of appropriate policies and a commitment to facing challenges, the government is expected to continue to spur sustainable and equitable economic growth. High appreciation for this achievement illustrates a significant step towards better welfare for all Indonesian people.
