Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto stated that many major countries frequently apply double standards by violating the very principles of democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and environmental protection that they have long promoted to other nations.
According to him, Indonesia’s long historical experience of intervention and colonialism has driven the country to remain vigilant, to understand global realities as they truly are, and to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests through leadership that is historically aware and oriented toward global justice.
On the same occasion, the President criticized major powers for violating the practices they themselves advocate, ranging from democracy to environmental protection. Prabowo delivered these remarks during a briefing at the National Coordination Meeting of the Central Government and Regional Governments at the Sentul International Convention Center, Bogor, West Java, on Monday (2/2/2026).
President Prabowo began by recalling that for hundreds of years, the Indonesian nation had been intervened in, disturbed, and colonized.
“This is something we must understand; we must comprehend it. Those who forget history will be punished by history; those who forget history will be trapped in the mistakes of the past,” Prabowo said.
“Why do I say this? Ladies and gentlemen, because today we are given an opportunity—an opportunity to see the world as it truly is. We now see major countries that teach us about democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and environmental protection, yet they violate what they teach,” he continued.
Prabowo said that tens of thousands of innocent women and children have been massacred, while many countries remain silent.
“Where are the human rights? Where is the democracy they teach? That is why, ladies and gentlemen, as leaders, we must remain vigilant and we must understand,” he concluded.
