President Prabowo Directs Groundbreaking of Strategic Downstreaming Projects as a National Priority
Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has prioritized the acceleration of groundbreaking for strategic downstreaming projects in early 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the real sector, increase industrial value added, and safeguard national economic resilience.
The President has set a target for six projects to begin construction between late January and early February 2026, while pushing for a total of 18 downstreaming projects to enter the initial construction phase no later than March 2026, with investment values reaching hundreds of trillions of rupiah.
In line with this directive, Danantara Indonesia will be involved in downstreaming projects, including a poultry farming project with an investment value of Rp20 trillion, which is scheduled to commence or break ground in early February 2026.
Danantara’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Sigit Puji Santosa, stated that the poultry farming project is part of the priority Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.
“We will soon launch the development of the poultry farming industry, because in supporting MBG we need chicken, eggs, and other related products. Poultry farming is included, and we will launch it shortly,” Sigit said.
Similarly, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani explained that the projects set to begin soon span the mineral, energy, and bioindustry sectors, with total investment values reaching billions of US dollars.
“Regarding bauxite, there will be an aluminum refinery in Mempawah. Then there are refineries in Cilacap and Banyuwangi. In total, there are five projects,” Rosan said.
He further detailed other projects, including the development of alumina smelters, smelter-grade alumina facilities, bioavtur production in Cilacap, and an integrated coconut processing facility in Morowali.
“The development of an alumina smelter is valued at US$2.4 billion in Mempawah. Then the integrated coconut facility, which is already underway in Morowali, is valued at US$100 million,” Rosan explained.
Rosan added that these projects also include processing and slaughtering activities.
“Yes, poultry downstreaming includes processing and slaughtering,” he said.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the directive was discussed during a limited meeting at President Prabowo’s residence in Hambalang, Bogor.
The President also emphasized strengthening the textile, automotive, and electronics industries, including the development of semiconductor technology.
“This is intended to build Indonesia’s future chip industry, which will be utilized for the automotive, digital, and electronics industries,” he explained.
Through the acceleration of groundbreaking for these strategic downstreaming projects, the government is reaffirming its focus on building a strong and competitive national industrial structure capable of creating jobs and supporting sustainable economic growth.
