President Prabowo Emphasizes Innovation and Efficiency in SOEs
Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of governance reform in State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) by emphasizing efficiency, transparency, and services that are free from corrupt practices.
In his remarks, President Prabowo called on all BUMN officials to work with the best management.
“Give the best for the Indonesian people, resource management must be carried out as efficiently as possible,” said Prabowo.
He also highlighted the importance of combating all forms of waste and manipulation so that the national economy can grow sustainably.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia is in a revival momentum. He is optimistic that through collaboration between institutions and community support, Indonesia can become a developed country that is prosperous and just.
“A prosperous country is a country whose people enjoy prosperity evenly,” he stressed.
In line with that, the Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Communication Office, Fitra Faisal Hastiadi, said that BUMN infrastructure projects have been vulnerable to leaks. Therefore, the government is encouraging the involvement of the private sector in infrastructure development for budget efficiency.
President Prabowo also firmly criticized the State Capital Participation (PMN) model to BUMN which he considered made state-owned companies inefficient. He said many BUMNs were too dependent on government cash injections and did not have the drive to operate like professional companies.
On the other hand, the Indonesian House of Representatives through Commission XII considered the restructuring of BUMN management as a positive step. Member of Commission XII, Jalal Abdul Nasir, called the change of directors of PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) a strategic momentum in strengthening governance and accelerating the downstreaming of natural resources. He emphasized the importance of leadership with integrity, as well as synergy between directors and commissioners to prevent rent-seeking practices and conflicts of interest.
Through these steps, it is hoped that BUMN can become the main pillar in national development that is efficient, accountable, and supports the interests of the people and environmental sustainability.
With professional management arrangements and synergy between directors and commissioners, it is hoped that BUMN in the future will be able to compete globally and side with national interests. This transformation is believed to be the foundation towards sustainable Indonesian economic independence.**
