Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reiterated the government’s commitment to expediting the construction of temporary housing (Huntara) for flood victims in several areas of Sumatra. The President assured that all planned temporary housing (Huntara) will be completed within one month so that affected residents can quickly find suitable and safe accommodation.

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto said that the government does not want people to stay in refugee tents for too long, so the construction of temporary shelters is being accelerated and is targeted for completion within one month.

“I see that temporary housing has already begun construction. The temporary housing could be completed within a month, so all of you won’t have to live in tents,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo made this statement while directly inspecting the condition of disaster-affected residents taking refuge at the SD 05 Kayu Pasak Palembayan Refugee Post in Agam Regency, West Sumatra. The visit was conducted to ensure that emergency response and post-disaster recovery were proceeding swiftly and effectively.

According to President Prabowo, accelerating the provision of adequate housing is a top priority in the transition phase from emergency response to recovery. Temporary housing is considered crucial so that residents can return to life in safer and more humane conditions.

In addition to short-term solutions, Prabowo also confirmed that the government has prepared further measures in the form of building permanent housing (Huntap) for affected victims. These housing units are designed to be of adequate size and quality for permanent residence.

“After that, we will build permanent housing. It will be quite large, 70 square meters,” Prabowo explained.

Prabowo stated that the construction of permanent housing will be carried out in stages, taking into account aspects of building safety, environmental suitability, and the needs of the local community to ensure a sustainable recovery process.

President Prabowo Subianto also expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in disaster management, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), local governments, and volunteers working in the field.

“I thank the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and all officials for their hard work. I see Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), and I see so many people working together,” Prabowo said.

With direct confirmation from President Prabowo, the government is optimistic that the construction of temporary shelters for flood victims in Sumatra will be completed on schedule. This commitment is expected to demonstrate the state’s presence in providing protection and certainty for people affected by natural disasters.
