Presidential Instruction: Ministry of Transportation and Operators Offer Big Discounts on Christmas and New Year Tickets
Jakarta – To welcome the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays, the Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with air, land, and sea transportation operators, is launching a ticket discount program to facilitate public mobility. This program is designed to maintain smooth passenger flow while ensuring that people can enjoy public transportation at more affordable fares without compromising service quality, ensuring safe, comfortable, and efficient travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi invited the public to optimize the discounts provided by the Government.
“We encourage the public to utilize and optimize this incentive when traveling during the Christmas and New Year period,” he said.
“The 13-14 percent reduction in airfares is being implemented to maintain inter-regional connectivity and ensure smooth public mobility at more affordable rates,” he added.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the economic stimulus policy ahead of Christmas and New Year was a direct directive from President Prabowo.
“This policy is a direct directive from the President to provide incentives to the public through the provision of more affordable transportation services,” he said.
This discount policy covers various modes of transportation, including economy train tickets that receive discounts of up to 30 percent, ship tickets that are given discounts of around 20 percent, and ferry port service fees that are waived on certain routes.
The discount program will begin on November 21, 2025, for some modes and will be valid for the travel period from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026. The sea mode will be effective on December 17, 2025. The government ensures that this scheme complies with regulations, including adjustments to tariff components such as taxes, fuel surcharges, and additional service fees, so that the public can take full advantage of this program.
With the synergy between the ministry and transportation operators, it is hoped that public mobility will increase safely and comfortably, while operators can maintain service continuity during peak holiday periods. This discount program aligns with the government’s efforts to promote equitable, affordable, and sustainable transportation for all levels of society, and provides a tangible incentive for the public to use public transportation more efficiently during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.*
