Presidential Instruction on Enggano Island: A Solution for Developing Remote Areas
Jakarta – Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has officially signed a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on the Acceleration of Development on Enggano Island, Bengkulu. This policy is expected to accelerate equitable development on the island.
“The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, has officially signed a Presidential Instruction on the Acceleration of Development on Enggano Island in Bengkulu Province. This reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and promoting equitable development across Indonesia,” said Prasetyo.
Prasetyo Hadi further expressed hope that the signing of the instruction would bring positive impacts to the local community.
“We hope it will bring tangible benefits to the welfare of the Enggano community,” Prasetyo added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), Sultan B. Najamudin, appreciated President Prabowo Subianto’s swift response to the accessibility issues on Enggano Island. The signing of the Presidential Instruction serves as concrete evidence of the state’s presence.
“On behalf of the people of Bengkulu, we express our gratitude to President Prabowo. This strategic and prompt decision in addressing the basic needs of the people on Enggano Island is a testament to the government’s presence among its citizens, particularly in one of the outermost and frontline islands of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Sultan.
Sultan added that President Prabowo’s swift action brings new hope to the thousands of residents on Enggano Island, who have long faced limited access to essential services.
“This is about the livelihood and daily lives of the people of Enggano, who rely heavily on sea transportation as the backbone of their economy. Enggano’s agricultural potential—especially bananas—alongside its fisheries and cattle farming, are vital food sources for Bengkulu,” Sultan emphasized.
Sultan also acknowledged the urgent need for improved port infrastructure and public transport vessels for island communities.
“Apart from Enggano Island, there are still many other islands that remain under the government’s attention. Therefore, the DPD RI, as an institution, continues to push for the completion of the Bill on Island Regions, which will serve as a legal foundation to strengthen public services in Indonesia’s outermost areas,” he concluded.
It is known that President Prabowo Subianto has recently signed the Presidential Instruction for the accelerated development of Enggano Island, reaffirming the government’s commitment to driving development in the region.
