Bogor – The government-initiated People’s School program continues to show positive results. Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf emphasized that student admissions are conducted openly and only after full parental consent is obtained.

“So no one was forced. Everything went through a process of dialogue and agreement,” said Gus Ipul, as he is familiarly known, after dinner with students from SRMP 10 Bogor.

This statement also responded to reports that several students in Temanggung had chosen to return home. According to him, of the five students who had gone home, two have returned, while the other three are still being monitored and in communication with their parents.

“If they’re not comfortable, of course we can’t force them. But behind them, there are still many people waiting in line to get in,” he explained.

A friendly atmosphere was evident as Gus Ipul spoke directly with the students. The dinner, which consisted of chicken curry, sour vegetables, braised tempeh, fruit, milk, and snacks, was enthusiastically received by the students. Some even enthusiastically requested extra rice.

“Is the food suitable?” asked Gus Ipul, greeted by laughter and enthusiasm from the students.

However, not all students were present that night. Seven out of 100 students were absent due to minor illnesses such as flatulence or chicken pox.

“That’s a normal part of the adaptation period. We have prepared health services, doctors, and psychologists to handle all complaints,” he said.

According to the Head of SRMP 10 Bogor, Fitri Puspita Sari, the activity went smoothly.

“Their activities are packed, from 4:00 a.m. to worship, exercise, and afternoon lessons. Some students’ bodies are still adjusting,” he said.

Gus Ipul appreciated the enthusiasm of the students who now have access to better food and education. One student, Vikar Ziyad Rasya, even aspires to become a member of the Flag Raising Team (Pskibraka), having previously only been able to eat once or twice a day at home. Meanwhile, another student, Asya Asyifa, couldn’t hold back her tears at being able to return to school.

“Those who used to only get one meal a day now get three meals a day plus snacks. And most importantly, they feel at home. That’s the most important thing,” said Gus Ipul, moved.

The government ensures that Public Schools continue to be improved from time to time.

“There are still many technical challenges, but we believe this program brings new hope,” he concluded.
