Public Urged to Stay Calm, Not Be Influenced by Calls for August 28 Demonstrations
Jakarta — Ahead of the planned demonstrations on August 28, 2025, security forces and the government have urged the public to remain calm and not be easily swayed by provocations. Authorities assure that security will be managed humanely, and public aspirations will be facilitated through proper legal channels.
The demonstrations, expected to involve thousands of workers from various regions, will concentrate mainly in front of the DPR RI Building, the Presidential Palace, and several industrial cities across 38 provinces.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Susatyo Purnomo Condro, stated that 1,250 combined personnel have been prepared to oversee the event in the capital. He emphasized that security will be conducted without firearms, prioritizing a humane approach.
“We urge the public not to fall for hoaxes and provocations circulating on social media. Keep the demonstration peaceful and do not let anyone exploit this moment for their own interests,” he stressed.
Susatyo also reminded protesters to respect public interests by refraining from damaging public facilities or arbitrarily blocking roads. The space for expressing aspirations remains open but must be orderly and lawful.
“Security forces will prioritize public safety throughout the demonstration,” he added.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that the DPR is open to receiving public aspirations directly at the DPR Building. She assured that the voices of the people will be heard by the institution authorized to accommodate and address public complaints.
“We will consider the aspirations of the people regarding these matters. Those expressing their views will, God willing, be heard by colleagues here at the DPR,” she said.
Puan explained that the DPR has a Public Aspirations Agency (BAM) to collect public complaints, grievances, and aspirations. The DPR is ready to engage in open discussions with the public to transparently address questions about issues such as the increase in DPR members’ salaries and the national economic situation.
“Here, BAM exists to gather grievances, complaints, and hear what aspirations are, as well as understand why these issues occur,” she added.
The government and DPR affirm that submitting aspirations is a constitutional right but must be done peacefully and without disturbing public order. Authorities also warn the public not to fall victim to hoaxes spreading on social media, as many parties seek to exploit this momentum for political gain.
With measured security and open dialogue, the government hopes democratic dynamics will proceed healthily without harming the wider community.
