JAKARTA – A number of students, pupils, and youth who are members of the Indonesian People’s Solidarity Alliance (ASRI) and the National Coalition of Indonesian Women (KNPRI) strongly condemned the demonstration that ended in riots.

They believe that anarchic actions not only harm society but also damage the image of the struggle which should be carried out peacefully and with dignity.

ASRI–KNPRI Coordinator, Fikri, emphasized that freedom of expression in public is a constitutional right of citizens. However, this right must be exercised in an orderly manner.

“All forms of anarchic acts, vandalism, and attempts to pit the people against the police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) will only harm the people, damage the image of the struggle, and injure the spirit of democracy,” Fikri said in Central Jakarta.

Fikri also urged President Prabowo Subianto to take concrete steps to maintain security and demand transparent law enforcement. The government needs to open up space for public participation so that people’s aspirations are accommodated without anarchy.

“We are confident and believe that the President is capable of carrying out his duties as Head of State in ensuring security, safety, and prosperity for all Indonesian people,” he explained.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo highlighted indications of provocation behind the riots. He emphasized that the state would not allow acts of vandalism to undermine national stability.

“I order the strongest possible action against all forms of destruction of public facilities, looting of individual homes, public places, or economic centers, in accordance with applicable law,” Prabowo said.

Similarly, Putri Khairunnisa, Chairwoman of the Indonesian National Movement (KNPI), reminded the younger generation not to be easily provoked. Democracy must be implemented in a proper manner and based on moral values.

“Anarchism can destroy order and widen the gap of division,” he said in a written statement.

He supports the authorities’ firm steps to maintain national unity. Youth have a moral responsibility to safeguard democracy with grace and dignity.

“We believe that moral democracy will create a strong nation. Let’s stop anarchy and keep Indonesia harmonious and peaceful,” said Putri.

Not a few young people, both school and university students, strongly and firmly rejected the provocation during the demonstration because it only damaged the image of the struggle.
