Second Batch of Regional Leaders’ Retreat Strengthens Inter-Regional Communication and Coordination

Jakarta — The second batch of the Regional Leaders’ Retreat was officially held from June 22 to 26, 2025. Attended by 86 regional heads, this event continued the success of the first batch of the retreat conducted last February. The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance communication and strengthen coordination among regions, fostering greater synergy in implementing development programs across Indonesia.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, stated that this initiative has had a tangible positive impact on relationships among regional leaders. He noted that since attending the previous retreat, local leaders have become more acquainted with one another, leading to more open and productive collaboration.

“What stands out clearly—and is often mentioned when we visit the regions—is that togetherness and synergy are more visible now, simply because the leaders know each other better,” Bima said.

Bima explained that previously, there were few opportunities for regional leaders to meet in an intensive setting and develop close relationships. Forums like this retreat, he said, have accelerated the process of getting to know each other, paving the way for inter-regional cooperation.

“Back in my time, we didn’t have this kind of setup where leaders spent significant time together. Now, when there’s a national priority program or a disaster, coordination becomes faster and more effective thanks to these personal connections,” he added.

The retreat has also facilitated the exchange of ideas and concrete collaboration across sectors. Bima observed a growing trend where regional heads are now visiting one another to discuss policies, innovate in public service, and develop joint solutions to local challenges.

“We now see them actively visiting each other to exchange ideas and build partnerships. That’s become much more apparent compared to the past,” he emphasized.

Initially, 93 regional leaders were expected to participate in the second batch. However, six were unable to attend due to health reasons. One of them, the Governor of Highland Papua, had to return home early following the passing of his mother.

With 86 active participants, this retreat—held in Bandung—is expected to serve as a strategic momentum to strengthen regional government networks and accelerate the implementation of national programs through harmonious and sustained cooperation
