The Joint Apparatus of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) continue to strive for conduciveness to return immediately and be maintained in Puncak Jaya, especially after the incident of the attack on security forces carried out by KST Papua. to cause casualties.
The Papuan Separatist and Terrorist Group (KST) committed another heinous act, namely attacking security forces consisting of joint TNI and Polri personnel while securing the Tarawih prayer service in Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua.
As a result of the attack carried out by KST Papua, a TNI soldier and a member of the Police died from being shot. Regarding this, Danrem 173/Praja Vira Braja, Brigadier General Sri Widodo stated that the incident occurred on Jalan Trans Papua, Kampung Wirak, Ilu District on Saturday 25 March 2023 around 20:00 WIT. At that time, there were indeed 16 members of the joint personnel apparatus from the TNI and Polri who carried out the security of the Tarawih prayers in front of the Al Amaliah Mosque.
Sri revealed that a member of the 02/Ilu Koramil named Serda Riswar received 2 gunshot wounds to the chin and back which resulted in the member’s death. Meanwhile, a member of the Ilu Sector Police named Bripda Mesak also died from a gunshot wound to the back.
The brutal attack was allegedly carried out by the Terrorist Separatist Group (KST) in Ilu District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua. The current situation is still on alert one. Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said the Head of the Papua Police asked the Head of Police and all staff to increase vigilance.
Increasing vigilance is an important thing to do to be able to continue to anticipate the possibility of further security disturbances and to be able to immediately conduct an investigation of the two perpetrators and be able to uncover the motive for the shooting that was carried out.
All stakeholders and the community are also asked to create a safe and conducive Kamtibmas situation. The public is even asked to be able to help guard security and order and conduciveness, by reporting to the security forces if they see or know someone suspicious.
Responding to cases of shootings carried out by KST Papua and even causing victims to die, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Board (PWNU) Papua, Tonny Wanggai admitted that he was very concerned about the shootings that were carried out.
Tony also expressed his condolences for the two TNI-Polri members who died in the incident and hoped that Allah SWT would accept their deeds of worship. The incident was purely a security disturbance and from reports received no worshipers were victims of shootings.
Meanwhile, Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Dave Laksono asked the ranks of the TNI and Polri to really be able to take firm action against KST Papua. According to him, firm and measured actions are mandatory because indeed all kinds of cruel and brutal acts cannot be tolerated at all.
Dave then stated that the terror that had been perpetrated by KST Papua had clearly violated the law and also violated human rights (HAM) provisions, and was capable of undermining the development of social welfare that had been sought by the government.
In a similar vein, the Chairperson of Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament, Meutya Hafid, stated that special handling and a new strategy were needed in dealing with security in the Land of Papua. This is due to the fact that there has been an escalation of conflict which has been increasing until recently. In fact, this increase in escalation is not just mere analysis.
According to Meutya, Commission I of the DPR RI even continues to encourage follow-up on KST Papua by the Government, by issuing a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) regarding the involvement of the TNI in overcoming acts of terrorism which can become a legal basis in order to carry out security in the Land of Papua.
However, his party also continues to ask the security forces consisting of the TNI and Polri to continue to be on alert and also put forward the principle of humane handling in carrying out security in Papua. Handling in a humane and measurable manner but still firm is indeed very important.
After the attack by KST Papua on the security forces of the joint TNI and Polri personnel while securing the Tarawih prayer service in Puncak Jaya, the National Police immediately made efforts to ensure that conduciveness reoccurred and was maintained in the area.
