Synergy between TNI and Community Organizations Colors the Commemoration of Papua Integration Day into the Republic of Indonesia
Fakfak – Commander of Kodim (Dandim) 1803/Fakfak, West Papua, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Lukman Permana held a coordination meeting with dozens of youths from the Pemuda Panca Marga (PPM) organization at the Teras Kodim 1803/Fakfak. This activity is part of the preparation for the commemoration of Papua Integration Day into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) which will be centered on May 1, 2025.
In the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Lukman explained the history of Papua’s return to the Republic of Indonesia by showing a documentary video of the events of May 1, 1963. He emphasized the importance of the younger generation understanding this history as part of national identity.
“On this coordination meeting, I will explain the history and show a video of May 1, 1963 on the Terrace of Kodim 1803/Fakfak,” said Lukman.
Present at the meeting, Danrem 182/Jazira Onim, Colonel Inf Irwan Budiana, emphasized that the events of May 1, 1963 were final and did not need to be debated any further.
“Since that day, Papua has been a legitimate part of the Republic of Indonesia, and since then the beginning of development in Papua began,” continued Lukman.
Colonel Irwan invited all parties to support the development currently underway in Papua. He emphasized the importance of thinking ahead for the progress of Papua.
“Now, let’s think about how Papua can be more advanced,” said Lukman.
In addition, Irwan Budiana expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the Bhineka Tunggal Ika value in Fakfak, which he said was reflected in the spirit of community unity.
“We all agree that there is no country within the Republic of Indonesia,” concluded Lukman.
Meanwhile, the Regional Leadership Council of the Red and White Front (DPD-BMP) of West Papua Province held a social service in the form of free health socialization and distribution of basic necessities to residents in order to commemorate Papua Integration Day into the Republic of Indonesia.
The Head of the DPD-BMP of West Papua, Alfons Kambu, explained that this activity was also a means of socializing the role of BMP in guarding state interests and fighting for the rights of the community, especially Indigenous Papuans (OAP), in accordance with the mandate of the Special Autonomy Law.
One of BMP’s real actions on this occasion was the distribution of basic food packages to 100 heads of families as a form of the organization’s presence in the community.
The Coordinator of the DPD-BMP for Southwest Papua, Frengky Umpain, highlighted the progress of the young generation of Papua as real evidence of the success of Papua’s integration into the Republic of Indonesia.
“Since integration, many of our children have succeeded in becoming pilots, doctors, members of the TNI-Polri, regional heads, even ministers. This indicates that we are independent,” said Frengky.
He also introduced innovations by Papuan children in the field of technology, such as healthy water filter tools made by Sorong’s sons, as a form of independence in working and being competitive in various sectors.
The commemoration of Integration Day on May 1, 2025 is expected to be a momentum to strengthen unity and emphasize the commitment of all elements of society in developing Papua within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia.
