Jakarta – In the midst of a political year, people are expected to always maintain unity and be wary of provocations and politicization of SARA issues that can be used to divide the nation.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the MUI, KH Marsudi Syuhud on an occasion on the National TV station. According to him, politics unites, not divides.

“The goal of politics is to compose plans for the next five years. The second is to unite, if the people of the nation have been united then they must work together and reduce noise. Therefore, it is hoped that the general election will run safely and comfortably,” said Kyai Marsudi.

He further warned not to be easily swayed by statements that become leverage to divide society.

As is well known, one of the statements by the Ketum of the PDIP Megawati Soekarno Putri regarding recitations evoked mixed reactions from some parts of the community.

Related to this, Kyai Marsudi said not to swallow the information conveyed and carry out tabayun or verification.

“For people who respond is something that is approximate, their own interpretation. That interpretation can be right or wrong. Therefore there is a context for the name tabayun.” Kyai Marsudi added.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi invited the public to be able to put forward good prejudice (husnudzon) in these words. According to him, Megawati did not forbid women from reciting the Koran.

“His intention was not to prohibit or displease the women’s recitation activities, but preferably in managing the time to be more proportional,” he said.

Furthermore, Zainut assessed that Megawati only reminded mothers to be balanced in carrying out their duties in guiding children.

“So the essence of the message he conveyed was related to time management, not a ban on attending recitations,” he said.

Not only that, Zainut explained that taking part in recitations is a good thing. However, other obligations of mothers to take care of the household, educate children, and carry out other tasks and obligations should not be left behind.

“What was conveyed by Ms. Megawati should be seen as a constructive input, and can be used as material for evaluating recitation practices that have been taking place so far,” he added.

In the same vein, General Secretary of Baitul Muslimin Indonesia (Bamusi) PDIP Nasyirul Falah Amru explained that Megawati had never banned women from attending recitations. He emphasized that Megawati only asked mothers to be balanced in reciting the Koran and taking care of their children.

“Because reciting the Koran and taking care of the child are both for the benefit of the world and the hereafter, so it should be balanced so that stunting and so on can be avoided, that is the real message from Ibu Mega,” said the man who is familiarly called Gus Falah

Megawati, Falah added, had already apologized before making such a statement so that she would not be misunderstood, meaning that she is also a Muslim woman, so it is not possible for her to ban recitations.
