Jakarta – President Joko Widodo’s two-term government has recorded several important achievements in the economic sector. Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, explained several economic successes that Indonesia has achieved over the past 10 years.

“Economic growth during President Jokowi’s administration remained stable at around 5%. The poverty rate decreased to 9.36% as of March 2023,” said Suharso.

In addition, he highlighted the government’s success in creating significant employment opportunities, with an almost three-fold increase from 187 million in 2014 to 4.55 million in 2023.

Equal distribution of development is also a major focus, as seen from the decline in the Gini ratio from 0.406 in 2014 to 0.38 in 2023.

“The Farmer’s Exchange Rate increased from 102 in 2014 to 112.46 in 2023, and the Human Development Index increased from 68.9 to 74.39 in the same period,” Suharso added.

Infrastructure development is also not overlooked, which is one of the important elements in increasing Indonesia’s economic competitiveness in the global arena. In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, Indonesia rose from 54th in 2014 to 27th in 2023. The National Strategic Project (PSN) has also successfully completed 190 major projects, including roads, dams, ports, and railways, spread across various regions of Indonesia.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized the importance of transportation infrastructure as a link between regions in Indonesia.

“The development of transportation infrastructure in western and eastern Indonesia ensures better connectivity to remote mountainous areas,” said Budi Karya.

Executive Director of the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE), Mohammad Faisal, assessed the massive infrastructure development in the last 10 years as an extraordinary achievement.

“Development, especially outside Java, has helped reduce the infrastructure gap which has been a major problem,” explained Faisal.

Jokowi’s success in leading Indonesia, especially in the economic sector, has brought this country towards better achievements, both in terms of economic growth, public welfare, and infrastructure development.

This achievement is expected to be a foundation for the next government to continue the inclusive and sustainable development agenda.
