The 100 GW Solar Power Plant Development Strengthens Energy Self-Sufficiency and Creates Employment
Pangkalpinang – The construction of a 100-gigawatt (GW) solar power plant (PLTS) is a strategic step to strengthen national energy self-sufficiency and create jobs. This program not only provides clean energy but also has a positive impact on the community, particularly in the agricultural and environmental sectors.
Division Head of Corporate Social Responsibility MIND ID, Satya Nugraha, said that one of the company’s CSR programs in the environmental sector is the construction of solar power plants to support agricultural irrigation.
“The PLN electricity that was originally used by farmers to power turbines has now been converted to using solar power plants,” said Satya.
According to Satya, the use of solar power plants encourages energy efficiency and can increase agricultural production two to threefold annually.
“This is our way towards clean energy and efficiency,” added Satya.
A similar innovation is also implemented at PT Timah through marine environment reclamation by creating nests or homes for fish that help local fishermen’s activities.
In addition to focusing on energy and the environment, MIND ID also focuses on community development. The company provides facilities and infrastructure for small and medium-sized businesses to participate in exhibitions and obtain business and halal certification.
“Actually, we still have a lot to do, including in the health sector, building social infrastructure, and disaster response. In the health sector, we will be holding cataract operations this month,” said Satya.
According to him, there are a total of 48 types of health services with 5,727 beneficiaries. MIND ID’s CSR program covers four priority areas: education, environment, community development, and social activities.
“This priority area also includes development pillars implemented to support the achievement of the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) set by the United Nations,” Satya said.
MIND ID also provides scholarships and training to 500 teachers, as well as skills training for 267 people. PT Timah’s education program, specifically through the Pemali Boarding School, has graduated approximately 886 alumni, with 100 active students. Additionally, there are programs for university students and teacher literacy programs.
Meanwhile, PT Timah’s Corporate Communications Department Head, Anggi Budiman Siahaan, said that the company pays close attention to fulfilling its social, environmental, and community responsibilities in all operational areas.
“In carrying out its operations, PT Timah always adheres to government regulations, from exploration, exploitation, processing, sales to post-mining obligations, thus ensuring the sustainability of the industry in line with the national development vision,” said Anggi.
One tangible demonstration of PT Timah’s commitment to the environment is the reclamation of former mining areas on land and offshore. From 2015 to June 2025, the company reclaimed 3,000 hectares of land. Since 1992, over 16,000 hectares have been reclaimed at an estimated cost of Rp 196 billion.
“This can be seen in the Air Jangkang Reclamation Village in Bangka and the Selinsing Reclamation Village in East Belitung. We’re doing the same thing at sea, as PT Timah’s production operations are also located offshore,” Anggi said.
The construction of this large-capacity solar power plant represents a concrete step toward strengthening national energy security in an environmentally friendly manner while simultaneously creating new jobs. With the synergy of various parties, the goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency in the future is even more achievable.
