The 2025 Youth Pledge commemoration is a crucial moment, reflecting national stability and unity amidst social and political dynamics. The noble values of the 1928 pledge serve as a source of inspiration for the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Through the spirit of mutual cooperation, cross-generational collaboration, and a commitment to diversity, the Youth Pledge reflects the nation’s readiness to face the challenges of the times with strong unity.
The Youth Pledge arose from the collective awareness that independence would be achieved if all elements of the nation united in one determination, one language, and one homeland. These values serve as a reflection of social stability, mitigating the potential for disintegration amidst diversity. They also demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood across groups and cooperation between institutions crucial to national harmony.
Fahd Arafiq, Chairman of the Indonesian Youth Front (BAPERA), assessed that Youth Pledge Day 2025 reflects the significant role of youth in maintaining national stability. He emphasized that the younger generation must not be apathetic toward social and security issues that disrupt public order.
Fahd explained that BAPERA serves as a platform for collaboration across political parties, ethnicities, and religions to strengthen national unity. He believes that stability is a key prerequisite for sustainable national development. Therefore, it is crucial for young people to actively protect the environment, contribute to society, and assist state officials in creating a safe and peaceful environment in Indonesia.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed a similar view. He believed that the national spirit inherited from the Youth Pledge must be realized in real service to the nation.
The National Police Chief appreciated the active role of the Muhammadiyah Youth Preparedness Command (Kokam) which was directly involved in maintaining national security, both at religious events, social activities, and handling natural disasters.
According to him, the participation of youth like Kokam reflects how synergy between the community and authorities can build public trust in state institutions. He emphasized that this synergy needs to be continuously strengthened so that all government programs can run smoothly without being disrupted by horizontal conflicts or provocations that could potentially divide the community.
For the Chief of Police, the commemoration of the Youth Pledge is not just about remembering history, but also a momentum to strengthen the integrity, discipline, and spirit of service of youth in maintaining national stability.
On the other hand, Rivai Sabon Mehen, Spokesperson for the People’s Movement for Peace (Garuda), believes that maintaining national political stability is part of the moral responsibility of every citizen.
He emphasized that social stability is a key factor in national economic growth and sustainable development. Rivai encouraged all elements of society to avoid provocation, hate speech, and anarchic actions that could hinder the nation’s development process.
According to him, the spirit of the Youth Pledge teaches the importance of placing the interests of the nation above personal or group interests, especially in maintaining peace and shared prosperity.
Furthermore, this year’s Youth Pledge commemoration also demonstrates how the values of mutual cooperation and collaboration remain relevant in maintaining social balance in the digital era.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) encourages the younger generation to play an active role in various strategic fields, ranging from the creative economy, cooperatives, to digital innovation.
By empowering the potential of youth as productive pillars of the nation, national stability can be maintained because the positive energy of the younger generation is directed towards development, not conflict.
Noble values such as nationalism, tolerance, and love of country form a strong foundation supporting national stability. The 2025 Youth Pledge commemoration reminds the public that diversity is not a source of division, but rather a unifying force.
This spirit emphasizes the importance of respecting differences, strengthening solidarity, and rejecting all forms of extremism and intolerance that could threaten the integrity of the nation.
Amid the rapid flow of digital information, issues of disinformation and hoaxes pose a serious threat to social stability. Therefore, the younger generation is expected to play a role as pioneers of digital literacy and disseminators of positive messages that strengthen unity.
Active participation in anti-hoax campaigns, strengthening the narrative of tolerance, and supporting national programs are concrete forms of practicing the values of the Youth Pledge in the modern era.
On a social level, this year’s Youth Pledge commemoration also encouraged cross-community synergy in maintaining the environment and public order. Collaborative activities such as social activities, public discussions, and cultural performances served as effective channels for strengthening ties between residents and fostering a sense of national unity. This collaborative spirit also emphasized that national unity can grow from simple things, such as cooperation and social awareness within the community.
Ultimately, the Youth Pledge is not merely a historical legacy, but an ideological foundation that continues to live on in Indonesian society. The 2025 commemoration reflects the fact that national stability is not born from power alone, but from a shared awareness to maintain unity and uphold national values. Through the spirit of mutual cooperation, social responsibility, and dedication of its youth, the Indonesian nation demonstrates to the world that unity remains its primary strength.
In that spirit, Youth Pledge Day 2025 is not merely a symbolic commemoration, but also a manifestation of the nation’s determination to maintain stability, strengthen solidarity, and reaffirm the true meaning of one nation, one people, and one language: Indonesia. (*)
