The Government Affirms its Commitment to Eradicating Corruption in Response to Public Aspirations
Jakarta – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating corruption as a concrete response to the public’s aspirations for a clean, transparent, and accountable bureaucracy. This affirmation is a crucial step to ensure governance is conducted in accordance with the principles of integrity and justice.
The Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Buya Amirsyah Tambunan, commended President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to eradicating corruption. He stated that this determination is a crucial step in restoring the nation’s dignity towards a corruption-free Golden Indonesia 2045.
“The MUI appreciates the President’s seriousness and enthusiasm in eradicating corruption. The Indonesian people must fully support these efforts,” said Buya Amirsyah Tambunan.
He believes that there are a number of concrete steps that must be completed immediately, including accelerating discussions on the Draft Law (RUU) on Confiscation of Criminal Assets.
The bill aims to strengthen the legal basis for the process of confiscation and seizure of assets resulting from crime, including corruption.
“This is a golden opportunity to realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, free and independent from the clutches of corruption. Let’s support the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government in completing the Asset Confiscation Bill. The people need proof, not promises,” he said.
Meanwhile, Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Kholid, expressed his support for one of the demonstrators’ demands, which is to accelerate the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU).
According to Kholid, the Asset Confiscation Bill represents a concrete step to address the rampant corruption cases in Indonesia. Furthermore, this regulation is believed to ensure that state assets seized by corruptors can be returned for the welfare of the people.
“Corruption is not just an economic crime. It is a violation of people’s rights. Therefore, law enforcement must not only punish perpetrators but also ensure that the proceeds of crime are not enjoyed by anyone. The Asset Confiscation Bill is a rational, fair, effective, and decisive solution to close this gap,” said Kholid.
This bill comprehensively regulates objects that can be confiscated, namely assets resulting from criminal acts, assets used for crimes, and assets resulting from corruption that are transferred to other parties.
“In this way, the Asset Confiscation Bill will not add to the problem, but instead will provide a just solution for the people, be firm in addressing criminal acts of corruption, and be effective in law enforcement,” he explained.
It is hoped that these efforts will not only increase public trust but also provide a strong foundation for Indonesia to move towards becoming a developed nation that is globally competitive and free from corruption.
