The Government Confirms Blocking of Active E-Wallets to Combat Online Gambling

Jakarta – The government, through the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating online gambling by targeting the channels used by perpetrators. PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana confirmed that his office will block digital wallets (e-wallets) suspected of actively receiving or channeling funds from these illegal activities.

“We have handled many e-wallet cases involving illegal funds. If any illegal funds enter, we will take action (blocking) to protect the affected parties,” said Ivan.

According to PPATK (Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center) records, online gambling deposits made via e-wallets reached Rp1.6 trillion in the first half of 2025. This figure represents approximately 12.6 million transactions, demonstrating the significant role e-wallets play in the circulation of online gambling proceeds.

Ivan emphasized that the blocking will only target e-wallet accounts proven to be actively used for illegal transactions, not dormant or inactive accounts. “There will be no blocking of dormant e-wallets. So, the public need not worry,” he stressed.

This policy follows a previous step, where the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) blocked several dormant bank accounts suspected of being used for financial crimes. While initially met with protests due to perceived lack of public awareness, the PPATK ensures that the process will now be more focused and targeted.

Ivan further stated that his team continues to strengthen coordination with digital wallet service providers, banks, and law enforcement officials to disrupt the circulation of online gambling proceeds. “We’re not working alone. This is a collaborative effort to close the loopholes that allow funds to flow to illegal activities,” he said.

The PPATK’s decisive action aligns with government directives that have made eradicating online gambling a national priority. This activity is considered to be damaging to social fabric, draining family finances, and potentially triggering other crimes.

With measured enforcement and cross-sector collaboration, the government hopes to further restrict the freedom of online gambling operators. Blocking active e-wallets is expected to not only cut off the flow of illegal funds but also act as a deterrent to the perpetrators and service providers involved.
