The Government Continues to Strengthen Supervision and Block Access to Eradicate Online Gambling
Jakarta – The government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating online gambling practices through strict supervision, firm action, and cross-agency collaboration.
The Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, Alexander Sabar, said the government continues to strengthen content moderation and ensure that every digital platform is responsible for removing gambling-related content.
According to Alexander, this effort is implemented through the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN), which requires platforms to respond to reports and remove online gambling content within a specified timeframe. “If they fail to comply, the Ministry of Communication and Information can issue warnings and administrative sanctions in the form of fines. If violations persist, access to the platform can be terminated,” Alexander said on Monday.
He explained that the government’s authority is stipulated in Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to the ITE Law. This regulation allows the government to block access to unlawful content, including pornography and online gambling. This regulation also emphasizes the obligation of Electronic System Providers (ESEs) to independently moderate content.
In addition to taking action against content, the government is also strengthening its efforts to disrupt financial transaction flows linked to online gambling activities. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is collaborating with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), digital platforms, and law enforcement officials to trace and block accounts, digital wallets, and other payment channels used in these activities. “This coordination includes tracing and blocking various transactions that indicate online gambling practices,” said Alexander.
The government is also encouraging public participation through digital literacy and encouraging people to report online gambling-related content through aduankonten.id. Alexander emphasized that the eradication of online gambling is being carried out comprehensively and sustainably through a combination of monitoring, enforcement, transaction termination, and public education.
The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) recorded that the value of online gambling transactions dropped drastically to Rp 155 trillion in 2025, a 57 percent decrease compared to the previous year. PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana stated that this decline also contributed to a drop in player deposits, from Rp 51 trillion in 2024 to Rp 24.9 trillion this year.
