The Government Ensures the Implementation of the Regional Election Re-vote (PSU) Will Run According to Schedule
Papua – The government, along with election organizers, has ensured that the revote (PSU) for the Papua gubernatorial election will proceed smoothly and according to the established schedule. This commitment demonstrates the commitment of all parties to maintaining the integrity and credibility of democracy in Papua.
The Head of the Papua Province Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Hardin Halidin, reminded the General Elections Commission (KPU) to adhere to the revote (PSU) schedule as outlined in the KPU Decree (SK). Hardin emphasized that the entire vote recapitulation process must be carried out in accordance with regulations, from the district to the provincial level.
“The recapitulation at the district level is scheduled to be completed on August 13, and at the provincial level on August 16. Therefore, we remind the KPU to adhere to the established schedule,” Hardin said.
He added that timeliness in this process is very important to maintain the legitimacy of the election results and public trust in the election organizers.
Meanwhile, Papua General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Fajar Kambon confirmed that all polling stations (TPS) held repeat voting as planned. He stated that no TPS held repeat voting due to delays or technical difficulties.
“So far, there have been no reports of a follow-up vote. Everything is proceeding according to schedule,” Fajar said.
He explained that logistics distribution was carried out on time and according to the polling station locations, so that there were no obstacles in the voting process.
“In some places, it even happened faster because they only elected the governor and deputy governor,” he added.
The Chairperson of the Papua General Elections Commission (KPU), Diana Dorthea Simbiak, confirmed that the provincial-level vote recapitulation process does not have to wait for all districts to be completed.
“When a district has completed its recapitulation, it will immediately be recapitulated at the regency/city level. The same applies at the provincial level,” he explained.
Although the recapitulation process is still ongoing, the Papua KPU is optimistic that all stages will be completed on schedule.
“So far, there have been no obstacles. We are optimistic that the recapitulation will be completed by August 16th,” he said.
The orderly and timely implementation of the re-election in Papua reflects the government and election organizers’ commitment to maintaining the quality of democracy. Adherence to the schedule, smooth logistics distribution, and transparent vote recapitulation demonstrate sound inter-institutional coordination.
This success is expected to set a positive example for other regions in holding democratic, orderly, and regulatory elections. With all stages of the revote completed on time, the Papuan people can soon have a legitimately and constitutionally elected leader to lead development in the province.
