JAYAPURA – The spirit of the Youth Pledge continues to serve as the moral foundation for the Indonesian nation’s journey. In Papua, this spirit now finds its most tangible meaning—through government policies committed to developing a resilient, competitive, and nationalistic young generation. Under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, Papua’s development is focused not only on infrastructure but also on fostering superior human resources as the nation’s social capital toward a Golden Indonesia 2045.

Habelino Sawaki, a member of the advisory board of the Indonesian Papuan Student Movement (Gemapi), believes the government’s attention to Papua is now more concrete than before. “President Prabowo has truly provided ample space for Papua’s young generation to actively participate in national development,” said Habelino.

According to him, the government has demonstrated a real commitment by implementing inclusive policies across various sectors, from education and the creative economy to empowering rural youth. Habelino added that Papua’s youth must be viewed as part of the national strength, not just geographically, but also as guardians of national unity.

The government continues to strengthen an adaptive education ecosystem for Papuan children. One example is through its support for the 2025 Mathematics and Computer Science Competition (KOMIKOM) organized by Cenderawasih University (Uncen), which involved 28 teams from 13 schools in Papua. The competition provides a platform for students to hone their logical, analytical, and creative thinking skills in the digital age.

PT Freeport Indonesia’s Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development, Nathan Kum, described the event as part of a collaboration between industry and education. “This event isn’t just a competition, but a way to develop a generation of young Papuans who are ready to compete and capable of becoming agents of change in their region,” Nathan concluded.

A character-building program is also being implemented through the “Jakarta Masuk Sekolah” (Prosecutors Enter School) program, run by the Attorney General’s Office and the Papua High Prosecutor’s Office. This initiative provides legal education to students from an early age, helping them understand the importance of discipline, responsibility, and avoiding deviant behavior such as drug use and bullying.

The Papua High Prosecutor’s Office Intelligence Assistant, Yedivia Rum, emphasized the importance of moral development among youth. “This program is a concrete manifestation of the mental revolution that prepares Papuan youth to become a generation of intelligence and integrity,” Yedivia asserted.

This series of steps demonstrates a more comprehensive and humane direction for Papua’s development. The government is striving to ensure that development in Papua is not only reflected in new bridges and roads, but also in the improved quality of life for the people living there. Cross-sector collaboration—between government, universities, and the business world—is a synergy that fosters the awakening of Papua’s next generation.

The momentum of the Youth Pledge inspires us to believe that the unity and fighting spirit of young people remains relevant in addressing the challenges of our time. Under the government’s commitment, this spirit has been realized in concrete terms: building a Papuan people who are confident, productive, and equal on the national stage.
Today, Papua is no longer a symbol of isolation, but rather a symbol of the rise of Indonesia’s young generation from the east. The spirit of the Youth Pledge now resonates throughout the Land of Papua—igniting hope, strengthening unity, and solidifying steps toward a just and progressive future for the nation.
