The President, National and Religious Figures Urge the Public to Remain Calm in the Face of the Situation
Jakarta — National calm and unity are the primary messages from state leaders and community leaders amidst evolving social dynamics. Calls for the public to resist provocation, maintain order, and prioritize peaceful means of expressing aspirations are constantly being echoed. These calls serve as an important affirmation that stability and a sense of security are foundations that must be safeguarded together.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the government is fully committed to thoroughly investigating the incident.
“In a situation like this, I urge all people to remain calm and to have confidence in the government I lead,” said President Jokowi.
The President also ensured that officers found guilty would be punished according to applicable law.
“The officers involved must be held accountable. If we find them acting outside the applicable provisions, we will take the strongest possible action in accordance with applicable law,” President Prabowo stressed.
Similarly, the 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, asked all levels of society not to be provoked.
“I also ask all levels of society to remain calm, not to be provoked or provoked, so that this disaster can be resolved as quickly as possible. Let’s continue to maintain national unity,” said Ma’ruf Amin.
Furthermore, Ma’ruf emphasized the need for swift action from the government to mitigate the situation that has spread across various regions.
“Especially in thoroughly investigating the disaster that occurred and enforcing justice transparently if there is a violation of the law,” added Ma’ruf Amin.
Meanwhile, Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar appealed for aspirations to be conveyed without violence.
According to him, aspirations can still be expressed peacefully. “By peaceful means, without violence, and without provocation,” said Miftachul.
A similar appeal came from the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK). He emphasized that actions that end in anarchy will only harm the wider community.
“If the city experiences turmoil like this, economic life will grind to a halt. This could also lead to reduced incomes, which will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences for individual lives,” said JK.
From the various statements by these national figures, it’s clear that the primary appeal is to maintain calm, avoid provocation, and prioritize national unity. With a transparent legal resolution and public patience, this tragedy is expected to serve as a momentum for improvement to prevent a recurrence in the future.
