TNI, Polri, BIN and Related Ministries/Agencies Ready to Secure and Succeed the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta

Jakarta – TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono confirmed the readiness of VVIP security for the 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023. The TNI, Polri, BIN, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and related Ministries/Agencies are ready to work together in securing and succeeding the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on 5 -Sept. 7, 2023.

This was conveyed by Yudo Margono after receiving the final report on Security for the 43rd ASEAN Summit, from the Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command (Pangkogabwilhan I), Rear Admiral TNI Erwin S. Aldedharma, at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta.

Commander Yudo said that security for the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta was not much different from security for the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in May 2023.

“The ASEAN Summit has already been held. “So I am sure that all officers can carry out this task well, and furthermore cooperation between task forces in the form of coordination is needed,” said Yudo.

The aim of implementing ASEAN Summit VVIP security is to ensure the security, safety and personal comfort of VVIP conference participants at any time, wherever they are, as well as ensuring the security of the area visited by the VVIP.

Meanwhile, the Director General for ASEAN Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sidharto R Suryodipuro said President Jokowi is planned to lead a number of meetings including the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, 24th ASEAN-South Korea Summit, 26th ASEAN Summit -Japan, and the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit. Other meetings are the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 18th East Asia (EAS) Summit, and the 13th ASEAN-United Nations Summit. “The President will lead activities that are non-conventional in nature, such as the opening of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, the opening of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum: Implementation of the AOIP, gala dinners, social events, as well as the closing ceremony and the handover of ASEAN chairmanship to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic as the next chairman. ,” said Sidharto.

Regarding journalists, Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Silmy Karim emphasized that Indonesia does not issue visas on arrival for foreign journalists. Therefore, foreign journalists are required to obtain a visit visa for the need to cover the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

“I do not open a special route for journalists. “So, there will be coordination regarding journalists and the one who understands it will be the committee (ASEAN),” said Silmy Karim.

He added that foreign journalists can apply for visit visas online. Later, the visa was issued by the immigration authorities so that foreign journalists could cover the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

“There is no visa on arrival from the committee. The committee only provides invitations. “All visas are issued by immigration,” he concluded.

For information, around 27 leaders of countries and international organizations are expected to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit, including leaders of participating countries in the East Asia Summit (EAS), leaders of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF), leaders of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Executive Director International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
