TNI-Polri Synergy Ensures Safe and Conducive Election Re-elections in Various Regions
The revote (PSU) in several regions proceeded safely and orderly, reflecting the maturity of democracy in Indonesia. Despite the high political tensions, the public was able to cast their votes peacefully thanks to the synergy between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), who maintained security on the ground.
In Papua, Sarmi Police personnel and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) conducted joint patrols ahead of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) ruling on the revote results some time ago. The patrols were led by Sarmi City Police Chief, First Inspector Suhartono, S.Sos., and Chief of Staff of Samapta, First Inspector Antonius Arwanto Hubi, targeting several strategic locations, including busy centers, main roads, and residential areas. This measure was taken to ensure the situation remains conducive and to provide a sense of security to the public.
Sarmi Police Chief AKBP Ruben Palayukan, S.Pt., SIK through Police Chief Suhartono emphasized that the synergy between officers continues to be strengthened.
“We, along with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), will continue to work together to maintain security in Sarmi Regency. We also urge the public to remain calm, not be easily provoked, and to work together to maintain order ahead of the Constitutional Court’s decision on the revote results,” he said.
In Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua, the revote also proceeded peacefully. Lieutenant Colonel Andry Christian, Commander of the 1711/Boven Digoel Military District Command, expressed his appreciation to the election organizers, security forces, and the public for their full support of the democratic process.
“The smooth and safe implementation of the Boven Digoel PSU was achieved thanks to the support of all elements, so that the PSU stages were successfully implemented until the election of the elected Regent and Deputy Regent by the KPUD,” he said.
According to him, this success was not only a technical factor, but also a manifestation of the political maturity of the citizens and candidate pairs who accepted the results with open hearts.
Meanwhile in Mahakam Ulu, East Kalimantan, Regent-elect Angela Idang Belawan appreciated the performance of the KPU, Bawaslu, TNI-Polri, and community participation.
She assessed that the re-election proceeded “safely, orderly, and smoothly,” reflecting a shared commitment to safeguarding democracy. Angela added that the local government will continue this momentum by accelerating public services and developing infrastructure that reaches even the most remote villages.*
