Traditional Leaders Condemn OPM Provocations, Residents in Puncak Jaya Asked Not to Be Instigated

“The joint operation of the Yonif RK 753/AVT/Elang IV Task Force and Mandala IV Task Force on July 16 2024 succeeded in taking firm action against 3 OPM members in Karubate Village, Mulia, Puncak Jaya.” said Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih.
He added that the three OPM members were members of Teranus Enumbi, which was known to be sadistic in carrying out terror and violence against civilians and security forces.
Lt. Col. Chandra emphasized that security forces would tighten security around the location to anticipate further attacks while protecting the public.
“TNI-Polri officers will continue to strive to maintain regional stability by continuing to protect and serve the community. “At the same time, law enforcement continues to be enforced, especially against OPM interference,” he explained
Meanwhile, Papuan Traditional Leader Herman Yoku criticized the series of OPM actions which always provoke the public and trigger riots in a number of areas in Papua recently.
“OPM has committed many human rights violations by killing civilians on the pretext of fighting for Papuan independence, even though not all Papuans want independence,” said Herman.
Herman believes that the OPM has tricked the Papuan people into attacking the Government even though the Papuan people love peace.
He also appealed to the OPM to end all acts of violence.
“It’s useless to fight but you’re still killing fellow Papuans,” he said.
Furthermore, Herman called on all people in Papua to maintain conduciveness in order to create a safe and advanced Papua.
Likewise, Papuan Youth Leader, Ali Kabiay, condemned the various acts of violence carried out by the OPM. He assessed that this action had a negative impact on the people of Bumi Cenderawasih.
Therefore, Ali fully supports the security forces’ efforts to crack down on OPM so that peace can be realized in Papua.
“Please take action, because we have nothing to do with this group,” said Ali.
