Jakarta – The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has confirmed that transportation infrastructure in North Sumatra Province is fully prepared to support the smooth flow of travel during Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026.

The main focus is on restoring post-disaster connectivity following floods and landslides to ensure that public mobility and logistics distribution continue safely and smoothly.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo emphasized that the restoration of road and bridge access remains the government’s top priority.

According to him, transportation infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting public movement.

“The Ministry of Public Works continues to strive to restore these accesses to full functionality as quickly as possible. Roads and bridges are the lifelines of community mobility and logistics distribution,” Dody said.

To prepare for the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year period, the Ministry of Public Works has deployed 85 personnel at Nataru command posts, supported by 96 units of heavy equipment and thousands of emergency response materials, including aggregates and geobags.

All equipment has been prepared to anticipate potential emergency conditions during the long holiday period.

In the toll road sector, the Ministry of Public Works has ensured that all toll road sections in North Sumatra have returned to normal operations. The Medan–Kualanamu–Tebing Tinggi Toll Road, which previously implemented a contraflow system, is targeted to resume full operations.

Other strategic sections such as the Medan–Binjai, Medan–Pangkalan Brandan, Medan–Sinaksak, and Tebing Tinggi–Kisaran Toll Roads are also confirmed to be operating optimally during the Christmas and New Year travel period.

Meanwhile, the ferry transportation sector is also ready to accommodate the surge in public mobility. President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Heru Widodo, reaffirmed ASDP’s commitment to maintaining the safety and comfort of service users.

“ASDP is committed to providing reliable ferry services by placing safety, empathy, and responsibility as the core foundations of our service,” Heru said.

ASDP has prepared 222 vessels to serve hundreds of ferry routes nationwide and has optimized its digital ticketing system, Ferizy.

On the toll road network in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and Bandung areas, PT Jasa Marga through Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad has prepared anticipatory measures to handle increased traffic volumes.

Senior General Manager of Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad, Widiyatmiko Nursejati, stated that traffic engineering, enhanced transaction services, and optimized monitoring technology have all been put in place.

“We ensure that all construction works are completed before the holiday period and conduct routine inspections to anticipate potential road damage,” Widiyatmiko said.

With cross-sector infrastructure readiness, the government is optimistic that the Christmas and New Year travel flow will proceed safely, smoothly, and under control across all regions.
