UI Legal Experts Welcome Prabowo’s Commitment to Upholding the Law and Eradicating Corruption
Jakarta – Akhiar Salmi, SH, MH, a legal expert from the University of Indonesia, believes that President Prabowo’s statement on the importance of clean governance reflects a strong commitment to building a state governance with integrity.
“We welcome Mr. Prabowo’s statement to uphold clean governance, starting from himself, the governor, the regent, and all levels of government down to the lowest level,” said Akhiar during an interview with a private radio station in Jakarta.
This determination is not merely a moral call, but rather an affirmation that the entire process of state administration must be carried out with high ethical standards, from the central to the regional levels.
“That’s his commitment. We support Mr. Prabowo. I’m sure he’s serious. The proof is that people close to him [implicated in corruption cases] have been prosecuted and dismissed,” Akhiar emphasized.
Salmi emphasized that examples like this strengthen public trust in the nation’s laws. He emphasized that if the state budget is corrupted, development aimed at improving the people’s welfare will be hampered.
“Because corruption hinders the realization of our national goals as stated in the fourth paragraph of the preamble to our Constitution,” Akhiar emphasized.
Akhiar said that support for law enforcement agencies, such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office, is a strong signal that the state is increasingly serious about eradicating corruption.
“There are still many ongoing cases, and now the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has started the sting operation (OTT) process again,” he said.
He hopes that with support from the community, the three law enforcement agencies, namely the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK), the police and the prosecutor’s office, can eradicate corruption without discrimination.
“We hope that the three law enforcement agencies in the corruption sector will compete to return the illegally looted money,” he said.
Furthermore, he continued, accelerating the discussion and ratification of the Asset Confiscation Law is seen as a strategic step to strengthen the eradication of corruption.
“The Asset Confiscation Law also needs to be expedited, during Mr. Prabowo’s era, so that the money they took can be returned to the state more quickly,” he explained.
Strengthening the integrity of law enforcement officers is seen as an important foundation for the sustainable eradication of corruption.
“Strict laws are really enforced, in my opinion, this is a lesson for regional heads,” said Akhiar.
All of the government’s steps add positive momentum for a transparent and corruption-free government system. Political courage at the executive level, growing public support, and regulatory improvements put Indonesia on a stronger path toward clean and equitable governance. [-RWA]
