Ramadan is a holy month full of blessings, peace, and togetherness. However, in the midst of an atmosphere that should be full of calm and harmony, there are challenges that cannot be ignored, namely the threat of radicalism and terrorism. Therefore, maintaining conduciveness during Ramadan is a shared responsibility, both by the government, religious leaders, society, and individuals.
The importance of maintaining conduciveness during Ramadan is also related to how society responds to various developing issues. Issues that divide, such as identity politics, hate speech, and the spread of hoax news, are often used as tools by parties who want to disrupt social order. Therefore, a wise attitude is needed in receiving information and not being easily provoked by issues that have the potential to cause division.
The phenomenon of radicalism and terrorism certainly does not happen instantly, but rather through a long process involving indoctrination, brainwashing, and manipulation of vulnerable individuals or groups. Radicalization can occur through various channels, including religious lectures, social media, or association with groups that have extreme views.
The role of the family in preventing the spread of radicalism is also very important. The family is the first environment that shapes a person’s character and mindset. Parents need to instill the values of tolerance, togetherness, and love of peace in their children from an early age. That way, the younger generation can grow up with a more open understanding and not be easily influenced by extreme propaganda.
In addition, educational institutions have a great responsibility in shaping students’ mindsets so that they are not easily exposed to radical ideology. Education that prioritizes national values, diversity, and moderate religious understanding can be a strong bulwark in facing the threat of radicalism.
Mass media and social media also have a strategic role in efforts to maintain stability during Ramadan. In the digital era like today, information spreads very quickly. Therefore, the media must act as an educational tool that spreads positive messages, and counters narratives that have the potential to cause unrest in society.
The government as a policy holder also has a great responsibility in maintaining order during the month of Ramadan. Efforts that can be made include tightening supervision of groups that have the potential to spread radical ideology, taking firm action against perpetrators of hate speech, and promoting deradicalization programs for those who have been exposed to extreme ideologies. In addition, collaboration between security forces, religious leaders, and the community needs to be strengthened to create a safe and conducive environment.
The Chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the importance of optimal security so that the community can celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1446 H safely and comfortably. The Chief of Police also emphasized that each Regional Police must follow up on the direction with concrete steps in their respective regions to anticipate various potential disturbances, including early detection of potential radicalism and terrorism in order to prevent security disturbances during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Following up on the Chief of Police’s direction, the South Sumatra Regional Police have prepared various strategies to ensure the security and smooth flow of homecoming traffic in the South Sumatra region. Deputy Chief of South Sumatra Regional Police Brigadier General Pol. M. Zulkarnain said that the ranks of the South Sumatra Regional Police will optimize security at points prone to traffic congestion, including on the eastern route, central route, and alternative routes often used by homecoming travelers. In addition, police personnel will be placed in shopping centers, terminals, stations, and tourist attractions to anticipate a spike in visits and potential security disturbances.
On the other hand, the role of religious figures is also very crucial in maintaining the conduciveness of Ramadhan. Ulama, kiai, ustaz, and other religious leaders have a great influence on the people. Therefore, they must be role models in spreading Islamic teachings that are full of rahmatan lil alamin values, namely Islam that brings mercy and peace to the entire universe. The sermons and preaching delivered should contain messages of peace, avoid hate speech, and instill an attitude of mutual respect.
Bandar Lampung Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Alfret Jacob Tilukay, visited the Al Hanif Islamic Boarding School, Teluk Betung Timur, Bandar Lampung City. This visit aims to strengthen relations between the police and the Islamic boarding school environment and provide an appeal regarding vigilance against radicalism and terrorism, especially during the month of Ramadhan. He reminded people to be careful in filtering information and not to be easily provoked by content that contains elements of provocation.
Meanwhile, society itself as the main component in social life also have an active role in maintaining peace during the holy month. Solidarity between citizens, mutual respect, and involvement in positive religious activities can be effective steps in countering radicalism.
By maintaining conduciveness during Ramadan, people can enjoy worship more solemnly and comfortably. Radicalism and terrorism are common enemies that must be fought with a wise and strategic approach. All elements of society have a responsibility to create a peaceful, safe, and harmonious environment. With a spirit of unity and collective awareness, we can face this challenge and ensure that Ramadan remains a month that brings peace and blessings to all. )* The author is the editorial team of the Student Press Institute (LPM) Ideas
