United in Supporting National Programs, “Indonesia Gelap Jilid 2” Demonstration is Irrelevant

Recently, the Indonesian public has been faced with calls for a demonstration titled “Indonesia Gelap Jilid 2.” This movement does not need to continue, as it is clearly targeting the government. Instead, the public should support the government in carrying out the mandate entrusted to it. When the country is working hard to create positive change, public support will only accelerate the achievement of shared goals.
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, stated that such demonstrations are unnecessary, as the government is actively working to improve the welfare of the people. Many public demands have already been addressed through policies implemented by President Prabowo Subianto and all relevant stakeholders. Various work programs have been initiated to tackle socio-economic issues, and these should be viewed objectively. While criticism is natural, it should be expressed constructively and in accordance with applicable regulations.
Demonstrations are indeed one way for the public to express their aspirations. However, will mobilizing large crowds and creating tension in the streets truly solve the problems? Of course not. As a democratic nation, Indonesia already has appropriate channels for expressing aspirations, such as meetings with representatives in the legislative body or through existing dialogue forums. Demonstrations that merely aim to incite unrest are not a wise course of action, especially when many issues have already been addressed effectively by the government.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker II of the East Kalimantan Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Kaltim), Ananda Emira Moeis, expressed appreciation for people who courageously voice their concerns for the betterment of Indonesia. This shows that the voices of the younger generation remain crucial in the democratic process. However, criticism will be more effective if conveyed through the appropriate and productive channels, such as the DPRD Kaltim, which can represent public aspirations within its authority and responsibilities. Every element of the nation has a significant role in the development process, and utilizing proper channels ensures that all voices are heard and considered effectively.
On the other hand, a member of the East Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Jatim), Yordan Batara Goa, stated that he and his colleagues will continue to advocate for the aspirations of the people by overseeing government programs and ensuring their proper implementation without causing negative impacts on society.
In this regard, the legislative branch plays a crucial role in ensuring that government policies truly benefit the people. However, Yordan also emphasized that public participation is essential to realizing the desired changes. People should not solely focus on shortcomings but should also give the government the opportunity to continue innovating and adapting to contemporary challenges.
As a society, we must understand that change takes time. No major transformation happens overnight. The current government has demonstrated its commitment to working hard and delivering the best for the Indonesian people. Efforts in economic, educational, and healthcare sectors clearly reflect a genuine commitment to improving public welfare. Certainly, there are still many areas that need improvement and refinement. However, this does not mean that we should fall into pessimism and continuously doubt the government’s performance.
Let us support the government’s efforts in overcoming various challenges. If there are shortcomings, let us voice them in the right and constructive manner. Constructive criticism is far more helpful than merely demanding change without offering clear solutions. This country belongs to all of us, and to move forward, we must unite and work together.
Observing how various government elements, from the legislative to the executive, are striving to meet public expectations, we should feel optimistic. Every policy decision is made based on careful consideration and the goal of improving the quality of life for citizens. Naturally, every policy will have its pros and cons. However, if approached correctly, protests and criticisms can be channeled toward positive change rather than mere expressions of dissatisfaction.
As responsible citizens, we must maintain peace and not be easily provoked by calls for demonstrations that could harm many parties. Non-constructive demonstrations will only heighten tensions and worsen situations. Let us support the government in carrying out its duties responsibly and express our aspirations in a more dignified manner. We all have an essential role in building this nation. Through solid cooperation, we can create a better Indonesia.
