Welcoming the Gentengization Program, Industry is Ready to Expand
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto’s “Roof Tile” program has received positive responses from various industrial sectors, including manufacturing and construction. It aims to replace zinc roofs with tiled roofs across Indonesia.
This program is part of the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) Indonesia Movement which was also promoted by the President at the 2026 National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Central and Regional Governments in Sentul, Bogor, on Monday (2/2/2026).
President Prabowo stated that the greening program is a concrete step to improve the comfort and beauty of the environment in Indonesia.
“I want all roofs in Indonesia to be tiled. This is a movement that will beautify our cities, sub-districts, and villages. Tiles are lightweight, strong, and safer than zinc, which can rust,” said President Prabowo.
Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized that roof tiles are made from raw materials such as clay mixed with waste, making them an environmentally friendly option. This initiative is expected to significantly expand Indonesia’s manufacturing industry.
“The proposed roof tile factory will not require a large investment, making it an affordable and efficient project,” he added.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the budget required for this program is estimated at less than IDR 1 trillion. The government has sufficient fiscal reserves to finance the program, with funding likely to be deducted from the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program or other sources.
“This program doesn’t require a large budget because it will only target homes still using zinc roofs. The required budget is very manageable,” he said in Jakarta.
Elsewhere, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that gentengization is part of the government’s broader strategy to encourage tourism development through environmental and urban planning. The tourism sector is the primary focus of this program, with the hope of beautifying cities across Indonesia.
“Environmental beauty and cleanliness are crucial factors in supporting tourism appeal. The President sees the importance of environmental management to make Indonesia more attractive to international tourists,” said Prasetyo.
Several relevant ministries are currently preparing technical solutions for implementing this program, including developing technology for large-scale roof tile production. The government also plans to further discuss the program’s technical and funding aspects through various inter-ministerial meetings.
