Young Intellectual Leader from Papua Highlands Supports Firm Action Against OPM
Wamena – Charles Kossay, a young intellectual figure from the Papua Highlands, has voiced strong support for the decisive actions taken by security forces to combat the presence of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), which has caused unrest and instability across Papua. He emphasized that firm action against OPM is necessary to achieve peace and progress in the region.
“I urge all Papuans to continue supporting law enforcement officers in carrying out their duties according to established standard operating procedures, so that the criminal acts committed by TPNPB groups can be dealt with appropriately,” said Charles.
According to Charles, the OPM has committed various acts of violence that not only harm civilians but also hinder development and public welfare in Papua, making firm action essential.
“Due to the actions carried out by TPNPB groups in the Papua Highlands, Central Papua, and other regions across Papua, people can no longer live peacefully. We need peace and security so that communities can resume normal activities to support a better life,” he explained.
Charles added that the presence of OPM is a source of anxiety for Papuans who desire peace and the opportunity to thrive. He stated that social solidarity and national unity must be prioritized for a better future.
“Their actions have traumatized the people to the point where they are afraid to go to their gardens, to work in offices, or to hold any kind of public events—daily activities have come to a complete halt,” he continued.
Furthermore, Charles called on Papuans to support government programs aimed at advancing development throughout the region.
“We encourage all Papuans to continue supporting development programs implemented by the regency, provincial, and central governments to realize the hopes and aspirations of the people for progress,” said Charles.
This support reflects the strong commitment of the Papuan people to peace and development in their homeland.
