Youth Leaders Urge the Public to Reject Provocation on the Youth Pledge Day

Jakarta — Various parties have called for the importance of maintaining a conducive national situation free from provocation. The commemoration, which falls every October 28th, is expected to serve as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of unity amidst social dynamics and the potential for provocation that could divide the nation.
The Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI), Dr. Ali Hanapiah, M.Si., emphasized the strategic role of youth as guardians of national stability. “We support the steps taken by the National Police (Polri) as deemed necessary to maintain national security and integrity, in line with the President’s directives in handling the current situation,” he said.
Ali urged the Youth Pledge commemoration to be an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and collaboration among the younger generation. “Let’s cultivate a spirit of unity for the sake of the nation and country we love. As young people, we have a great responsibility to maintain harmony and prevent division,” he emphasized.
He also emphasized the KNPI’s full commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita program, particularly in strengthening character and empowering the younger generation. In his directive, Ali instructed all KNPI Regional Leadership Councils (DPDs) in Indonesia to be at the forefront of maintaining a safe and peaceful atmosphere during the Youth Pledge celebrations.
“Indonesian youth must act as protectors, not dividers. We must safeguard the spirit of the Youth Pledge so that it is not distorted by provocative narratives,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas), Ace Hasan Syadzily, reminded the public to be wary of the provocations prevalent on social media. “It’s important for the public to be vigilant against the rapid flow of information in the social media era,” he said.
He believes many parties are trying to disrupt national stability by spreading provocative issues. “Many parties don’t want Indonesia to progress, and they’re using the digital space to spread provocation,” Ace said.
The spirit of the Youth Pledge must be interpreted as a collective determination to strengthen national unity amidst diversity. Therefore, all elements of society must resist provocation and remain focused on the common goal of maintaining Indonesia’s integrity and progress.*
