Jakarta – One year into the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, a new chapter has opened in the national food sector, filled with enthusiasm and optimism. The youth view the government’s success in achieving food self-sufficiency in a short time as a real inspiration that the grand vision of Asta Cita is not just rhetoric but concrete cross-generational work.

Arif Nurul Imam, Executive Director of IndoStrategi, explains that the public perceives current agricultural policies as having a tangible impact on improving farmers’ welfare and national economic stability.

According to Arif, several programs such as accelerated planting, expanded irrigation, and the precise distribution of subsidized fertilizers have been key factors in increasing public confidence.

He assesses that these measures have successfully strengthened national food reserves amid global challenges like climate change and world food price fluctuations.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) also shows encouraging results. The Farmer’s Terms of Trade (NTP) in September 2025 reached 124.36—the highest in recent years. This figure indicates that farmers’ income is significantly higher than their production costs, meaning farmers’ welfare continues to improve.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that this success is the result of joint work among the central government, regional authorities, and farmers across Indonesia.

“Our focus is to ensure domestic production continues to rise, farmers’ rice prices remain stable, and the public gets affordable and quality rice,” he said.

Amran also added that Indonesia has now begun exporting several key food commodities.

“We used to import red onions, now we export them. Chicken and eggs are also exported. God willing, next year rice, corn, and soybeans will follow,” he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, called the achievement of rice self-sufficiency concrete proof of success in the agricultural sector.

“Last year we still imported 4.5 million tons of rice; now zero. Bulog’s stock has reached 3.8 million tons. This means we are self-sufficient,” he affirmed.

According to Zulhas, this achievement is the result of solid cross-ministerial collaboration.

“The initial target was four years, but it was achieved in just one year. Everyone worked tirelessly for food sovereignty,” he said.

He also stressed that the purchase price for rice paddy has now increased to IDR 6,500 per kilogram, ensuring farmers receive fair profits.

Food self-sufficiency now stands as concrete evidence that the government’s hard work brings direct benefits to the people of Indonesia.
