After the General Election Commission (KPU) officially announced the results of the Pilres recapitulation on May 21, 2019, mass action which was sympathizers from camp 02 ended in chaos and passed the Sahur hours. Material losses were inevitable, with some shops in the vicinity of the riots forced to close due to fear of looting.
Even though the action can only be carried out until 6:00 p.m. The police also gave tolerance until the time was over, until finally the mob left the location. But when the night gets dimmer, more masses who want to act anarchistly.
Clashes ensued between rioters and police. Acts of provocation such as throwing stones at each other, firecrackers and Molotov cocktails were also unavoidable. Chase also took place in Sarinah to the Tanah Abang Market. Some public facilities were damaged, police dormitories and even casualties were lost.
The riots also triggered a slowdown in the hotel business. Where the number of visitors and income per day is reduced. This is experienced by hotels near the location of the riots. Even at that time several countries also issued travel advice which was a warning to tourists who were on vacation there.
The conditions of the May 21 and May 22 riots even contributed to disrupting economic stability. The rupiah was affected by its exchange rate which dropped several points. This certainly shows that investors will play safer first.
In the unconstitutional action, former member of the Mawar team, Fauka Noor Farid, was suspected of being behind the demonstration around the Election Supervisory Board that took place on 21-22 May.
Fauka is a member of Prabowo Subianto at the Special Forces Command. In addition, he was also part of the Mawar Team involved in kidnapping activists in 1998. He also tried to win Prabowo Subianto in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections.
Fauka is suspected to be in the Sarinah area, right in front of the Bawaslu Building, when the 22 May riots occurred. At that time Fauka was recorded several times communicating with General Chairperson of Baladhika Indonesia Jaya Dahlia Zein about riots that broke out in the Bawaslu area.
The party from the National Winning Body (BPN) Prabowo – Sandiaga said that Fauka participated in designing the demonstration at the Election Supervisory Body several weeks earlier. According to this source, there have been several meetings discussing the planned demonstration which took place at the BPN office on Jalan Kartanegara, South Jakarta.
A number of Garda Prabowo personnel, an organization founded and led by Fauka during the demonstration. One of them is Abdul Gani Ngabalin, he is a former subordinate of Rozario Marshal alias hercules, a Tanah Abang thug and now he has been detained by the police. But Fauka denied ordering Abdul Gani to take part in the demonstration.
The name of the Mawar Team is known as a team within the Army Group IV Special Forces Command Force. The team allegedly kidnapped activists in the 1998 tragedy.
The Head of the Police Public Information Section Commissioner Pol Asep Adi Saputra said that investigators continued to try to use various sources to uncover the case.
Asep also responded to one of the sources of the report originating from the police and said it would still be in depth, and all of that was still in the police investigation.
This was also responded to by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Wiranto who revealed that the National Police would open up about figures suspected of being masterminds of the riots in Jakarta on May 21-22 2019.
