Jakarta – The Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Summit is a joint forum to discuss marine issues. Therefore, the AIS Forum also involves young people to be involved in solving this problem.

Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jodi Mahardi, said it was important for young people to be involved in maritime issues.

“Young people are the ones who bring change, innovation and resilience to this issue,” he said

He went on to say that one of the big challenges facing island and archipelagic countries requires responsible maritime governance and a sustainable blue economy.

The Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries added that young people are needed to find solutions and innovations in overcoming these big challenges.

“We want young people to feel like they own the AIS Forum initiative. “We want to provide a perspective and contribution on how to participate in the conversation because these young people do not only represent their country but the potential for change,” he said.

Previously, Executive Director of the Center for Maritime Studies for Humanity, Abdul Halim, said that the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, which took place in Bali, Indonesia, would gather leaders from various countries around the world.

This event aims to address various important issues related to oceans, including the sustainability of marine ecosystems, increasing levels of plastic in the oceans, climate change affecting the oceans, as well as sustainable economic development through the marine sector.

“One of the most important aspects of the preparations for this summit is the presence of heads of state, which shows the serious commitment of each country in dealing with global maritime issues. “It is hoped that the presence of these high-level leaders will provide the momentum needed to take concrete action to support sustainable maritime affairs,” said Abdul Halim.

It is hoped that the 2023 AIS Forum Summit will produce a joint declaration that will become the basis for concrete steps in supporting sustainable maritime affairs. With heads/leaders of state present, the world will look forward with great hope to the breakthroughs that will emerge from this important meeting.
