The Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) promises that Nusantara will become the first carbon neutral city in Indonesia. OIKN also claims that as much as 65 percent of the IKN area will be filled with tropical forests.
Head of OIKN, Bambang Susantono, said that the IKN area of more than 250 thousand hectares will only be used around 25 percent for public operations.
With the remaining 75 percent of land, 65 percent will be returned to tropical forest, while the remaining 10 percent will be used as food reserve land.
In achieving this vision, OIKN will first plant its forest areas with monoculture plants. The plan will be carried out in the nursery area around the Mentawir area, Kab. Penajam Paser Utara as a plant to be planted in the production forest.
In addition, various IKN programs are targeted to become the first carbon neutral city in Indonesia. As the first city in Indonesia to be carbon footprint free in 2045, he hopes that all of Indonesia can follow suit in less than 20 years after that.
The development of IKN is Indonesia’s determination to support three important global campaigns. The three campaigns include supporting the preservation of natural wealth in the IKN area, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and focusing on solutions to climate change. A total of 13 agencies from the UN, UNDP, UNEP, UN Women, UNICEF, UNESCO, to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have collaborated with IKN for this matter.
OIKN also promised to overcome the problem of deforestation which has been addressed to the IKN project. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has approached IKN to participate in this important agenda. This project is IKN’s determination to restore the glory of Kalimantan’s flora and fauna in the IKN area.
In implementing this target, Bambang revealed that IKN development was Indonesia’s determination to support three important global campaigns, namely supporting the preservation of natural wealth in the IKN area, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and focusing on solutions to climate change.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Kalimantan Province, Sugianto Sabran, and the Acting Governor of East Kalimantan, Akmal Malik, said that as hosts of the IKN, the five provinces in Kalimantan have a big role and responsibility in making the development of IKN a success. Infrastructure development that is integrated with IKN is an important thing that must be done, so that all regions in Kalimantan can take advantage of all opportunities after IKN is established. Connectivity and synergy between regions in Kalimantan are important keys to the success of IKN preparations.
The vast area of Kalimantan requires integrated infrastructure and institutions across regions and sectors so that the wheels of IKN development can run optimally. Apart from that, the Head of the South Kalimantan Province Diskominfo, M Muslim, said that his party was ready to integrate and connect infrastructure with regions in Kalimantan. Through the National IKN Symposium, the Governor of South Kalimantan Province, Sahbirin Noor, also conveyed the joint commitment of the Governors in Kalimantan, including supporting the development of IKN as an effort to become a sovereign, advanced, just and prosperous nation, as well as achieving the vision of a golden Indonesia in 2045, then encouraging its immediate realization. Trans Kalimantan connectivity, which connects transportation and infrastructure across all provinces in Kalimantan, can foster synergy and economy between regions to support IKN.
Furthermore, together with the central government, we will accelerate regional economic potential in Kalimantan to encourage the realization of equitable development and actively involve local wisdom in the management of the Indonesian capital.
On the other hand, the National Standardization Agency (BSN) always supports the strategic policies of the Indonesian government both at the center and in the regions through the development of Indonesian National Standards (SNI) and ensuring their effective implementation in the market.
One of the government policies established is the development of the Archipelago Capital or IKN, the implementation of which is based on Law Number 3 of 2022. Located in Balikpapan City, which is located close to the IKN development, BSN organizes the Indonesia Quality Expo (IQE). This strategically proves that BSN really supports the government program in building IKN.
As is known, standardization has the aim of protecting consumers and increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian products, so IQE as an SNI socialization activity and the introduction of BSN institutions, is very important in the East Kalimantan region, which will be the location for IKN development.
Regarding infrastructure development, such as houses, buildings, roads, even dams, BSN has established SNI or in the construction sector, as many as 1,140 SNI. Among these SNIs, SNIs that have been implemented compulsorily include SNI 2049:2015 Portland Cement and SNI 2052:2017 Concrete Reinforcing Steel.
Apart from that, BSN has established SNI 3432:2020 Procedures for determining the design flood and spillway capacity for dams. For city or regional planning, BSN has also established 4 SNI Smart City. Because IKN is in a natural environment and of course it will also be a role model as a clean, beautiful and healthy city, BSN has also established 244 SNIs in the forestry sector.
