Community Support for Sustainability of Food Barns in Papua
Papua – Papuan people are increasingly showing strong support for the food barn program initiated by the government to improve food security in eastern Indonesia. Various local initiatives and active community involvement have been the main factors in the success of this program in recent years.
The food barn program, which focuses on developing sustainable agriculture and increasing local food production, has had a positive impact on the community. Local farmers receive training and access to modern agricultural technology to increase their harvests. In addition, the local government together with local communities have also developed a more efficient distribution system so that food can be affordable for all levels of society.
The General Chairperson of the DPP Pemuda Saireri Papua, Gifli Buinei, expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto who has designated Merauke Regency as a national food barn area.
“Of course, the determination of Merauke Regency as a national food barn is due to several factors. First, the area or agricultural land in Merauke is vast. Then, Merauke’s land is fertile and has a good climate. Therefore, the determination of Merauke Regency as a national food barn is the right step that has been taken by President Prabowo Subianto,” said Gifli.
As a Papuan youth, Gifli hopes that Merauke Regency will be designated as a national food barn area.
“This is a good step that can then have an impact on the local community and Papua in general,” said Gifli.
Gifli explained that the food barn program in Merauke cannot run well if it does not receive support from the Papuan community and the younger generation. Therefore, the national food security program must receive support from the younger generation and the community.
“We must all participate in supporting and overseeing the program so that the impact of the food barn program can change the economy of the Papuan people for the better. In addition, the Papuan people also have good food security,” said Gifli.
Gifli hopes that the process of realizing the national food barn program must involve the Papuan people.
“The Papuan people should not just be spectators but must play an active role in making the program a success, so that the food barn program in Merauke can be realized properly and provide many benefits for the Papuan people,” explained Gifli.
The government continues to pay attention to agricultural development in South Papua, so that the great potential of this region can be utilized optimally. Merauke Regency, South Papua, with its vast agricultural land and high farmer spirit, continues to prove its role as one of the main pillars of Indonesia’s food security.
The strengthening support from the community is a great hope for the sustainability of the food barn program in Papua. With synergy between the government, farmers, and local communities, Papua is expected to become one of the centers of independent and sustainable food security in Indonesia.
