Papua is an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, its status legitimate and final, both under national law and international recognition. Throughout the nation’s history, Papua’s integration into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia has not only been part of a political and diplomatic process, but also reflects a shared determination to maintain territorial integrity and strengthen national unity. This narrative is crucial to continue to emphasize amidst various dynamics that seek to cast doubt on this legitimacy.

As a region with a strategic location and abundant natural resources, Papua is not only a vital asset for Indonesia but also a symbol of diversity that must be preserved. Since integration in 1969, various international resolutions have recognized Papua as an integral part of Indonesia. This affirms that there is no room for debate regarding Papua’s status within the global legal framework. The Indonesian government has consistently used this legal basis as a foundation for designing sustainable and inclusive development policies.

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Red and White Front (BMP), Ali Kabiay, believes that Papua’s integration into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is a predestined path and a gift from God Almighty. He believes that Papua’s position as an integral part of Indonesia must be jointly safeguarded by all elements of the nation, including the government and the Papuan people themselves. In his view, maintaining this integrity is not merely a constitutional obligation but also a moral responsibility to ensure a better future for the Papuan generation.

Furthermore, as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Papua is subject to all applicable Indonesian laws and regulations. National law regulates various aspects of community life, from politics to socio-cultural matters. Furthermore, international legal recognition further strengthens Papua’s position as a legitimate part of Indonesia. Therefore, attempts to challenge this status lack a strong basis, both legally and geopolitically.

The central government itself has demonstrated a real commitment to advancing Papua through various development programs. Infrastructure development continues to open up isolated regions, access to education is expanded to improve human resource quality, and healthcare services are enhanced to ensure public welfare. These programs aim not only to improve living standards but also to strengthen social integration and create justice and equality for all Papuans.

The special autonomy policy is a crucial instrument in achieving these goals. Through this policy, the government grants regions broader authority to manage resources and determine development directions according to the needs of local communities. Collaboration between the central and regional governments is key to ensuring that development is inclusive and sustainable.

However, amidst these advances, narratives persist that attempt to distort history and fuel conflict. Commemorations of Papuan integration are often exploited by certain groups to spread views inconsistent with legal and historical facts. Such narratives have the potential to cause unrest and hinder ongoing development efforts.

Sentani traditional leader and Chairman of the United Prosperous Sentani Alliance, Jhon Maurits Suebu, warned the public not to be easily provoked by false narratives. He emphasized that conflict would only harm the Papuan people themselves and hinder much-needed development. In his view, the community’s primary needs now are stability, education, and improved welfare, not protracted identity debates.

He also appealed to the public not to follow calls from irresponsible parties that could potentially cause division. He believes maintaining peace is a crucial step to ensure optimal development. He hopes all elements of society can work together to maintain security and order, so that Papua remains a land of peace and prosperity.

This statement reflects the aspirations of the Papuan people who desire a better life within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Security and stability are a primary prerequisite for sustainable development, and this can only be achieved if all parties share a commitment to maintaining unity. In this context, the role of community leaders, traditional leaders, and youth is crucial as the vanguard in maintaining social harmony.

Papua is a valuable asset for Indonesia, possessing immense potential to drive national progress. Its natural wealth, cultural diversity, and strategic location make it a vital component of national development. Therefore, maintaining Papua’s integrity as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is not only the responsibility of the government but also of all Indonesians.

With a strong legal foundation, public support, and ongoing government commitment, Papua’s status as a legitimate and final part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is an undeniable reality. Moving forward, synergy and collaboration are needed to ensure that every policy truly benefits the Papuan people. In the spirit of unity, Papua will continue to be a solid part of Indonesia’s journey toward a more advanced and prosperous future.
