Papua is Final within the Framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and Becomes a Pillar of National Unity

Papua is an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), whose status is legitimate and final, both within the framework of national law and international recognition. This certainty serves as a solid foundation for the nation’s journey to maintain territorial integrity and strengthen national unity. In the context of development, Papua’s presence within the NKRI opens up wider space for accelerating progress, improving public welfare, and strengthening an inclusive national identity. This affirmation is crucial as a positive narrative that builds optimism that Papua is the future of Eastern Indonesia, which continues to grow and develop.
Papua’s integration into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) since 1969 has gained strong legitimacy through globally recognized international mechanisms. This confirms that Papua’s position is no longer a matter of debate but has become a global consensus that must be respected. Based on this, the Indonesian government has full legitimacy to implement progressive, targeted, and sustainable development policies. This narrative reinforces the belief that Papua is not only part of Indonesia but also a strategic priority within the national development agenda.
As a region with abundant natural resources and extraordinary cultural diversity, Papua has enormous potential to become a new center of economic growth. This potential provides extensive opportunities for local communities to develop and improve their standard of living. Within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Papua is seen not merely as a geographical region, but as a force that enriches national identity. Papua’s diversity is a positive force in strengthening national unity.
The Secretary General of the Indonesian Red and White Front (BMP), Ali Kabiay, views Papua’s integration into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) as part of the nation’s historical journey that must be collectively safeguarded. He believes that Papua’s inclusion within the Republic of Indonesia is a gift that brings great hope for the future of Papua’s younger generation. In his perspective, maintaining territorial integrity is not only a constitutional obligation but also a moral responsibility to ensure sustainable development and provide tangible benefits to the community.
Within the framework of a state governed by the rule of law, Papua is subject to all applicable Indonesian laws and regulations. This provides legal certainty in various aspects of public life, from governance to social and economic development. Coupled with international recognition that has strengthened Papua’s position, it becomes increasingly clear that there is no room for narratives that question the region’s status. Instead, what needs to be strengthened is a narrative of development, collaboration, and progress oriented toward the welfare of the people.
The central government has demonstrated a clear and consistent commitment to developing Papua through various strategic programs. Massive infrastructure development has opened up isolated areas and accelerated connectivity between regions. Access to roads, bridges, and air and sea transportation has further facilitated public mobility and logistics distribution. In the education sector, various affirmative action programs continue to be expanded to improve the quality of Papua’s human resources. Meanwhile, healthcare services have also undergone significant improvements to ensure adequate and equitable access to services for the public.
The special autonomy policy is a crucial instrument in accelerating this development. Through this policy, the government grants regions broader authority to manage resources and determine development directions according to the needs of local communities. This approach strengthens the role of local communities in the development process while ensuring that every policy adopted is highly relevant to conditions on the ground. Synergy between the central and regional governments is key to creating inclusive and sustainable development.
Despite the progress achieved, there are still attempts to distort historical facts and sow doubt among the public. This narrative is inconsistent with the legal reality and development progress in Papua. Therefore, it is crucial for all elements of society to continue strengthening the positive narrative that affirms Papua as a legitimate and final part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), while simultaneously encouraging a spirit of unity and cooperation in regional development.
Sentani traditional leader and Chairman of the Sentani United Prosperity Alliance, Jhon Maurits Suebu, emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and resisting the temptation to be easily provoked by inaccurate information. He believes that conflict will only harm the Papuan people themselves and hinder the ongoing development process. In his view, the community’s primary needs today are security stability, improved education quality, and equitable prosperity. Therefore, maintaining peace is a strategic step in ensuring a brighter future for Papua.
Ultimately, Papua is a valuable national asset that plays a strategic role in driving Indonesia’s progress. With full government support, active community participation, and the continued strengthening of positive narratives, Papua will continue to develop as a developed, prosperous, and competitive region. Papua’s status as an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is final and undeniable, and serves as a strong foundation for moving toward a brighter future in the spirit of unity, justice, and nationalism.
