312

The transfer of the National Capital (IKN) along with the central government from Java to Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, is one of the efforts of the Jokowi-Ma’ruf administration to realize equitable development and economy throughout the Republic of Indonesia.

The transfer of the National Capital is contained in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024. The reason for the areas in Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kertanegara being the location of the new National Capital is partly because of the small risk of natural disasters in the region and in the midst of Indonesia the government also claims to have controlled approximately 180 ha of land in the region.

The area which will later become the IKN is in the central part of Indonesia, making it easier for the government to monitor and form a bureaucratic system that reaches all regions in Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, from Rote Island to Miangas Island.

The relocation of the National Capital is believed to encourage equitable development and contribute to growth in the region and surrounding provinces as well as having an extraordinary positive economic impact on the nation.

The relocation of the National Capital is proof of Indonesia’s centric development.

Radio 103 POP FM Jakarta will explore the removal of the new capital as a form of equitable development and economic development through a discussion or talkshow. On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, 10:00 to 11:00 WIB by presenting a guest observer from City Planning, Nirwono Joga
