‘Brakes and Throttle’ Strategy give Balance Health and Economic Focus in an Era of New Habit Adaptation
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) introduced the brake and gas analogy to illustrate that the handling of the impact of COVID-19 in the economic and health sectors must be balanced. Jokowi directed regional heads to release gas by boosting the economic sector so that the regional economy does not plummet. However, if the area falls into the red zone, then the brakes must be applied by applying the PSBB to control the spread of COVID-19.
Chairman of the Task Force for Handling COVID-19 Doni Monardo admitted that the government is closely monitoring the development of the spread of the corona virus in Indonesia, which has recently increased. Doni also reminded regional heads to play ‘brake and gas’ as the analogy of President Joko Widodo.
if an area has entered the red zone, the regional head must immediately hit the ‘brake’. Conversely, if the area changes to a safer zone, it can add ‘gas’. What is meant by ‘brake and gas’ is a balance between health and economic aspects during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thus discipline in implementing health protocols becomes an effort to consciously cut the spread of Covid-19 and fight together against the spread of Covid-19 by making the New Habit Adaptation Era successful.
