On October 17, 2019, the United Nations (UN) named Indonesia as part of the 2019 Human Rights Member Council (HAM) in 2019. This election simultaneously dismissed the notion that human rights violations occurred in Papua. The news was chosen by Indonesia as a Member of the UN Human Rights Council Commission in 2019. This news is certainly an achievement that is so proud as well as encouraging. After various accusations related to human rights, this is often directed at the motherland. Especially when the situation is “hot” with Bumi Cendrawasih some time ago. These accusations were often filed by Papuan activists who at that time wanted the East Axis to integrate from the Republic of Indonesia.
However, unfortunately it seems that slander has never been proven. Instead it makes Indonesia stronger and more powerful. This is reflected in the announcement of the appointment of a beloved country as part of a large UN family in particular as a member of the Human Rights council commission. According to the socio-political observer of Cenderawasih University, Yakni Marinus Yaung said that Indonesia had become the first human rights commission board. It is said that this archipelago has been incised a similar note in 2005-2007 and now in 2019 it is repeated.
This moment is something interesting because previously there was an attempt to create a bad image by ULMWP and Veronika Koman. They are aggressively voicing if Indonesia is a country that is cases with human rights issues. They also campaigned for this image not only in the United Nations but also in the international world. According to Yaung, the active action did not affect Indonesia being elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Council Commission for the period 2020 to 2022. This shows that the archipelago was automatically able to fulfill and glue human rights throughout the Republic of Indonesia, especially the Papua region. In fact, according to the UN version, Indonesia is able to set aside two main candidates namely, South Korea and Japan.
Japan and South Korea, in fact, have developed country systems with regard to human rights enforcement, and democracy has developed. In fact, there are several levels above Indonesia. Then, why is our beloved country able to defeat them? Yaung explained that the Archipelago was considered capable of building a positive image both in terms of handling and how to respect human rights themselves. Until indirectly it has been recognized by countries in the international world.
Yaung added if he appealed, calling for no more provocative actions which would harm the Papuans. because, the success of Indonesia is a failure obtained by the Veronika Koman campaign along with ULMWP. Furthermore, he invited all students to return to the existing reality. Related, the independent Papuan politics which hold the state accountable in the name of human rights, from the international world, is a mistake.
Students, too, must re-correct themselves seriously so that Papua will be able to change in their own hands one day. Do not waste their learning opportunities because of the failure of the ULMWP diplomacy and Veronika Koman’s actions, in fact it has left Papuan activists dead. Thus, they must prepare themselves better especially for themselves and Papua in the future.
He also said that our future is not determined by the ULMWP, nor is the country of Vanuatu, Solomon and Veronika Koman. This future is ours, so we ourselves will determine where the goal will go. On the other hand, we are also dealing with a global situation which allows anyone who is “baptized” to become a slave to others.
In this regard, being re-elected as a member of the Human Rights Council Commission is an extraordinary achievement. Bearing in mind, amid the hectic conflict that does not stop whacking, the government is able to be calm and face all challenges. Without stepping back one step. This also proves that negative accusations on various problems can be broken one by one.
Even so, we also shouldn’t let our guard down. Let’s strengthen and strengthen the unity and unity of the nation in order to close various gaps, so that the intruders and irresponsible people are unable to enter or intervene in our beloved country, Indonesia.
