Special Autonomy Has Positive Impacts on the Papuan People

The plan to extend the special autonomy in 2021 seems to have received support from various public figures. They have already felt the results of Otsus volume 1, namely progress in the fields of infrastructure, economy, education and others. The people of Cenderawasih Earth are increasingly improving their financial capabilities.
Currently Papua is a tourist destination thanks to its natural beauty and Raja Ampat is a jujugan for foreign tourists. They want to visit eastern Indonesia because it is considered exotic and exudes natural regional beauty. The tourism business is running smoothly thanks to the Sentani International Airport, which was built with Special Autonomy funds.
Not only for infrastructure development, but the special autonomy fund which reached 126 trillion rupiah was also channeled into other fields. Such a large budget will be divided into the sectors of education, health, community empowerment, religion and so on. So that Papua does not only have modern buildings, but also a smart community thanks to the Otsus scholarship.
The Special Autonomy program is considered to have succeeded in advancing the community on Earth of Cenderawasih. In addition, Otsus is an affirmative action that will make the Papuan people rise from being left behind. So it is hoped that there will be no gaps with existing developments in Java.
In the past, Papua was synonymous with the lonely eastern region, only in the form of forests and less modern people, but now it is different. Thanks to the special autonomy funds, there have been many developments that have advanced the Earth of Cenderawasih. Even a multi-event National Sports Week (PON) will also be held in Papua, this is of course the pride of Papuans because their territory is in the spotlight.
Martina Randongkir as the Chairperson of PKK Dobonsolo Sentani Jayapura, supports the extension of Otsus, because the policy has the aim of making the Papuan people prosperous. This policy was quite successful, but there must be an evaluation so that it will be even better in the future. There will also be an optimization of village policies.
Evaluation of the special autonomy funds needs to be done so that this program runs even better. For example, for special autonomy funds in the field of education, there are also scholarships to continue to vocational schools. In addition, it is not only school buildings that are being built, but also looking for quality teachers through the SM3T teacher program.
Thomas Sapanfo as the deputy regent of Asmat considers that Otsus has a positive impact. Because in addition to providing scholarships for Papuan sons, there is a special program for those who have graduated from high school. Youths can enlist in the army, and all costs from recruitment to training are assisted by Otsus. This policy of course supports native Papuans to guard the territory of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to Thomas, there should be socialization about the success of the Special Autonomy program. These broadcasts are not only broadcast in Papua, but also throughout Indonesia. So that all the people will know that this program has been successful, and they will support the extension of Otsus. Because it has been proven to advance Papua in various fields.
Socialization about the success of Otsus is very necessary, because currently there are people who reject the Otsus policy, whatever the cause, but their existence is quite unsettling. So they must be approached and fostered, so that they know that Otsus has a positive impact in Papua and finally agree to agree to an extension of this program.
According to a growing issue, the rejection of Special Autonomy volume II by certain individuals is due to the absence of a positive impact felt by the Papuan people. However, the fact is that the positive impact of Otsus has been enjoyed by the Papuan people and various assistance has gone to villages / regions.
Sem Kogoya added that the student demonstration against Otsus was in the interests of certain political elites to divide youth and Papuan society. He also said that Papua’s Special Autonomy had a positive impact, namely that it could develop in the areas of infrastructure, education and various other welfare assistance.
The sustainability of Otsus must of course be supported, because Otsus is a policy given by the central government for indigenous Papuans, and in Indonesia there are only 2 regions that have received Otsus, namely Papua and Aceh. Even so far Otsus has had a very positive impact on development and human resources in Papua province.
