Bali is Ready to Hold the First Edition of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit

Bali has been selected again and is ready to be the location for the inaugural edition of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) International Summit (Summit) on October 11 2023. The event was attended by a number of island and archipelagic countries throughout the world. 

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 20 of 2023 concerning the National Committee to Organize the 2023 AIS Forum Summit. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, was appointed as Chairperson Responsible for Substance Sector. The task of the national committee is to prepare and determine a master plan, including determining the theme and agenda for the series of activities for holding the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, preparing and determining the work plan and budget for holding the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, preparing and holding the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, carrying out monitoring organizing the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, evaluating the implementation of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, and preparing a report on the implementation of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit.

Ahead of this international event, a number of agencies and elements involved are preparing each other thoroughly like previous international events. Likewise, PLN’s Eastern Java and Bali Transmission Main Unit (UIT JBM) continues to ensure that electricity distribution during the event can run safely, especially in the Nusa Dua area which is the main venue. In preparation, PLN UIT JBM through the Bali Transmission Implementation Unit (UPT) continues to make efforts to ensure the reliability of the electricity system from start to finish.

General Manager of PLN UIT JBM, Didik Fauzi Dakhlan, explained that the AIS Summit was a collaboration with the participation of island and archipelagic countries throughout the world to jointly overcome the challenges and problems faced, especially in the marine development sector. Approximately 100 UPT Bali personnel are stationed at GI locations at every national or international event.

In terms of transportation, towards the AIS Summit in October 2023, Secretary of the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg), Setya Utama and President Director of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID), Woojune Cha have provided official vehicles for the 2023 ASEAN Summit. A total of 208 units will be provided a number of IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 as operational vehicles at the AIS Summit in Bali. The ceremonial handover was carried out at the Hyundai Horizon of Innovation booth at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show 2023 (GIIAS 2023), Tangerang. HMID President Director Woojun Cha feels proud to be part of the AIS Summit 2023 event and Hyundai has provided real support in the presidency of several major events for Indonesia and especially regarding the country’s vision and mission regarding sustainability.

Meanwhile, in terms of security, the TNI Commander has decided that for security at international events he will use security role models such as the Labuanbajo Summit and the Bali G20. In this case, cooperation and synergy between agencies including TNI, Polri, BIN, BSSN, Pamda DKI and other agencies is the main key. However, support and participation from the community is also part of the success of securing and organizing these events.

Therefore, to make the international event a success in order to achieve the goals of the AIS Forum, Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Jodi Mahardi emphasized the need for AIS countries to strengthen commitment and solidarity in facing common challenges. Jodi also emphasized the importance of the AIS Forum as a forum for island countries to contribute to bringing resolutions to global problems. This forum belongs to all island and archipelagic countries in the world, regardless of their size, location and level of economic development. 

This AIS Forum is a hope for all island countries to be able to foster a sense of ownership, a desire to strengthen collaboration, and expand the impact of cooperation carried out to many other communities in various countries and regions.
