CIDISS – A number of wild animal protection agencies did peace campaign, Wednesday (14/9) in Yos Sudarso street, Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan province. They sued police to monitor the rifle circulation and using, also enforce the law toward persons who using air rifle for hunting protected wild animal. They sued because the air rifle is treat the wild animal, especially protected animal.
Along 2004 till 2006, at least there are 23 cases for shooting Orang Utan using air rifle. Orang Utan has critic, permanent flawed till died. In some cases, hunter mostly shoot mother of Orang Utan then they take the baby of Orang utan for trading.
Campaign coordinator, Satria Dwi Angga Sihantoro said that mostly Orang Utan which died shooting is caused by hunting, not attack the human. Injury Orang Utan causing air rifle slowly will die.
He claimed that the air rifle circulation must be under monitor. In the using air rifle, there is a regulation. “Related party, in this case is police must be tight monitor toward air rifle,” said him
He explained that in the regulation no 8 year 2012 about monitor and control the firearm for sport, clearly stated that there are regulation in using rifle.
In the chapter 4 verse 3 stated that air rifle also using for target shooting sport. Continued in chapter 5 verse 3 that, the using of rifle only in match place or training area.
Then, the party sued to police regarding firearm (rifle). First point, they sued police to monitor the rifle and tight monitor the circulation and using of rifle.
Second point, sued the police to do raid and enforce the law because many party using rifle for hunting the wild animal.
“Conservation effort will be hold because hunting. Police must have serious action to this case,” said him.
This campaign is done together in ten cities; they are Aceh, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Jogjakarta, Solo, Malang, Surabaya, Samarinda and Palangka Raya.
