President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his latest State Address conveyed Indonesia’s economic achievements over the 10 years of his leadership. Indonesia’s economic growth remains stable at around 5% despite many other countries experiencing stagnation or decline. Even more interestingly, the eastern regions of Indonesia, such as Papua and Maluku, recorded economic growth above 6%, with North Maluku soaring to over 20%. Indonesia is one of the few countries that has been able to recover more quickly and continue to grow, with inflation also under control at levels of 2-3%, while many other countries are experiencing extraordinary spikes in inflation, with some exceeding 200%. Additionally, the government’s success in reducing extreme poverty from 6.1% to 0.8% in 2024 is also commendable.
Efforts to protect the lower economic community also provide broad benefits for society. The Rp361 trillion budget for the Healthy Indonesia Card over the past 10 years has been used to finance healthcare services for more than 92 million JKN participants each year, ranging from early childhood to the elderly across Indonesia. The stunting rate has also been successfully reduced from 37% to 21.5% in 2023. Jokowi believes that these achievements are the result of the hard work of all elements of the nation.
In his speech, he highlighted Indonesia’s increased competitiveness on the global stage, which surged from 44th to 27th place in 2024. According to him, this is closely related to the government’s efforts in building infrastructure, including 366 thousand kilometers of village roads and 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads, which significantly reduced logistics costs from 24% to 14% in 2023.
In the energy and downstream industry sector, there have been remarkable achievements over the past eight years. The development of downstream industries, such as smelters for nickel, bauxite, and copper, has created over 200 thousand jobs and contributed more than Rp158 trillion to state revenue. The President emphasized that this economic success is the result of the hard work of all the people of Indonesia.
In addition, at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representative Council in the Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Friday, August 16, 2024, in commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In his speech, President Jokowi emphasized the achievements of development over the past 10 years as well as the vision for a more prosperous and equitable Indonesia in the future.
The government’s success in building a foundation and a new civilization through an Indonesia-centric development approach. For the past 10 years, the government has been able to build a new foundation and civilization with Indonesia-centric development, building from the periphery, building from the villages, and building from the outermost regions.
Infrastructure development has become one of the main focuses of the government. In the last decade, Indonesia has successfully built 366 thousand kilometers of village roads, 1.9 million meters of village bridges, 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads, 6,000 kilometers of national roads, 50 new ports and airports, as well as 43 new dams and 1.1 million hectares of new irrigation networks. President Jokowi revealed that this effort has successfully improved Indonesia’s global competitiveness, which rose from rank 44 to rank 27 in 2024.
Jokowi also highlighted how equitable and fair development has strengthened the unity of the nation. According to him, Indonesia’s resilience as a nation is evidenced by its ability to withstand the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and global geopolitical tensions. Amid these global challenges, Indonesia’s economy continues to grow steadily above 5 percent, with some regions in Eastern Indonesia, such as Papua and Maluku, recording economic growth above 6 percent, and North Maluku exceeding 20 percent.
Regarding the remarkable performance achievements of the Head of State, the Chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, expressed high appreciation for the government’s development achievements and fully supports the sustainability of the development of the National Capital (IKN) Nusantara.
To achieve national progress in welcoming Indonesia Gold 2045, sustainable development is crucial to realize, as it will bring about accelerated investment.
The Vice Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), Ahmad Muzani, also expressed gratitude for the leadership and outstanding performance during President Joko Widodo’s 10-year term.
So far, Indonesia has experienced significant developments, especially under the administration of the seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia. Several developments have occurred in the fields of infrastructure development, the economy, law, and the completion of various people’s prosperity programs.
High appreciation continues to pour in from various parties regarding the extraordinary performance achievements during President Joko Widodo’s 10-year leadership, particularly in the significant improvements in the economy and equitable infrastructure development for the welfare of all citizens without exception.
In the 10 years of President Joko Widodo’s leadership, Indonesia has made various significant advancements, especially in the fields of economy and infrastructure. The sustainability of development, including the National Capital City (IKN) Nusantara project, is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position towards the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. Appreciation and support for this achievement demonstrate recognition of the significant contributions to building a more advanced and just nation.
