JAKARTA — In order to strengthen Indonesia’s economic relations with major countries, President Prabowo Subianto has succeeded in bringing about various significant investment agreements and ensuring support for the free nutritious meal program and various efforts to equalize the economy in Indonesia.

President Prabowo’s state visit to China, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and meetings with leaders of major companies in the United States reflect Indonesia’s commitment to building a strong economy.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that during his visit to China, the eighth President of the Republic of Indonesia witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian and Chinese governments.

In addition to the USD10.07 trillion investment, the Chinese government has also agreed to provide funding to support the free nutritious meal program in Indonesia.

Airlangga explained that the program would be implemented through the Food Supplementation and School Feeding Program, a similar initiative that has been running in China.

“Yes, they [the Chinese government] will support because they have also implemented nutritious food here,” said Airlangga.

In Beijing, President Prabowo attended the Indonesia-China Business Forum (ICBF) 2024 which brought together various companies from both countries.

The meeting was to sign strategic cooperation in the field of renewable energy, including hydropower projects and other clean energy infrastructure.

On that occasion, President Prabowo emphasized that this collaboration not only strengthens investment in the energy sector, but also has the potential to maintain regional economic stability.

“We are very optimistic. Close collaboration between Indonesia and China will be an important factor in stabilizing and enhancing regional cooperation,” he said.

In addition, President Prabowo’s meeting with the leaders of leading US companies in Washington DC is a momentum to attract further investment interest from strategic sectors.

Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani, who also attended the meeting, said that discussions with US companies were productive.

The discussion also opened up new opportunities in the fields of carbon capture technology and geothermal energy, which are in line with Indonesia’s net zero emission target.

Rosan emphasized that the Indonesian government is committed to reducing bureaucracy, so that incoming investment can provide benefits to all Indonesian people.

“And most importantly, it will reduce the complicated bureaucracy so that investment coming into Indonesia will also bring goodness to all Indonesian people,” he said.
