Government Allocates 20 Thousand Subsidized Houses for Workers

Jakarta – The government through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has officially allocated 20,000 subsidized housing units for workers throughout Indonesia. This program is part of the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and will begin with the symbolic handover of 100 housing units on May 1, 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of International Labor Day.

“Houses for these workers are the best gift from President Prabowo Subianto. We are targeting the handover of subsidized houses to be carried out on May 1, 2025,” said Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait.

This subsidized housing program uses the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme which is intended for low-income communities (MBR), including workers. These subsidized houses will be built in various regions such as Banten, Jakarta, and West Java, taking into account the proximity of the location to industrial areas so that they are easier for workers to reach.

“Location and quality are two things that cannot be negotiated. We want the houses provided to be truly habitable and close to the workers’ workplaces,” Maruarar emphasized.

To ensure that this program is right on target, recipient data will be adjusted to MBR data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and coordinated with the Ministry of Manpower. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said that macro and micro data will be collected and reconciled through the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN) to support accurate distribution.

BP Tapera Commissioner, Heru Pudyo Nugroho, explained that the FLPP KPR scheme allows workers to own affordable homes, with light installments, and low interest. He also added that the government continues to innovate so that access to decent housing is increasingly open for workers.

“With FLPP KPR, workers can enjoy the convenience of owning a home. We also continue to assist so that the financing process runs smoothly and is not burdensome,” explained Heru.

Minister of Manpower Prof. Yassierli also appreciated the Ministry of PKP’s quick steps. He called this program a real form of appreciation for workers as national assets, not just a means of production.

“Decent housing will have a direct impact on the productivity and welfare of workers. This is not just about a place to live, but also a form of state appreciation for their hard work,” said Yassierli.

A representative of workers from KSPSI, Ahmad Supriyadi, also welcomed this program positively and hoped that the location of the houses would be considered so that the mobility of workers would not be disrupted.
“We strongly support this program, hopefully it will truly provide long-term benefits for workers and their families,” he said. (*)
