Jakarta – After successfully uncovering an online gambling network through the slot8278 site that confiscated more than Rp 89 billion, the Government through the Cyber Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police has again taken firm steps in eradicating online gambling by blocking assets worth Rp 36,860,289,000.

This asset is related to an international gambling site that offers various types of games, such as slots, poker, dice, gaple, dominoes, and koprok.

The Director of Cyber Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, explained that the blocking was carried out after an in-depth investigation into the flow of funds suspected of originating from an international gambling site network.

“The Rp36.8 billion fund comes from payment service providers used by international online gambling sites. This step is a form of our firm commitment to eradicate online gambling activities that disturb the community,” Himawan explained.

The investigation began with the role of one of the payment service providers who acted as an intermediary in facilitating deposit transactions for the gambling site. According to Himawan, this blocking is expected to suppress cybercrime practices that utilize technology for online gambling.

“We are still investigating this case and trying to track other assets that may be related to this network,” he added.

The firm steps of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police have received serious attention from the legislature. Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rudianto Lallo, revealed that the Indonesian House of Representatives is preparing four working committees (Panja) for the next five-year period, one of which is the Cyber Crime Panja which focuses on eradicating online gambling.

Rudianto emphasized that the existence of online gambling which continues to grow despite eradication efforts shows that there are parties who protect this illegal business.

“Online gambling has never died, even though eradication continues to be carried out. The police must uncover who is backing this illicit business. This must be resolved, including if there are police officers involved,” said Rudianto.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also ensured that the National Police will not hesitate to ensnare members involved in online gambling. “I have ordered the National Police Propam to impose strict sanctions on members involved in or protecting online gambling practices. There is no tolerance,” Listyo stressed.

With firm steps taken by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police and full support from the DPR, it is hoped that the online gambling network that is disturbing the community can be eradicated to the maximum, including taking action against individuals involved in the illegal business.
